Water quality in the Mid-West, at least near here, is not so great and cannot see more than a foot in teh water and water is very shallow

Our lakes are plenty deep to boat. Visibility in most of the dallas area lakes is less than 12". On a good day Broken bow can be 25' or more. The vis at broken bow suffers when all the jet boats hit the cove. LOL. Within 3 hour of dallas there are several lakes with pretty good visibility. Lake Ouachita (About 6 hours away) has fantastic visibility. At times it can be as much as 60'. It also suport fresh water jellyfish and sponges. Beautiful lake.

At any rate, I think you wil like it here. Some of the guys from Lavon were boating right up until the day before thanksgiving.
