Default Texas - Tell me about it, have a job offer there

Don't know enough about the state, but either way we are leaving Il. Two job offers, one to take us back to Ca. and the other to a new adventure in Texas

Go Man Go. You might still get a feel for freedom before it is gone there as well.

which means the area is nice, weather is good, kids can enjoy as well?

We want to get the boat out, as well as riding the dirt bikes and camping at the same time

I work at the DFW airport and live right up the street in grapevine. I moved from CA two years ago. Life is pretty good since leaving that F'd up state. Lakes are every where out here and huge! Most every one is nice and respectful. The cost of living is much cheaper than CA. No state Tax, but taxes for everything else.

WX is hot in the summer cold in the winter though we haven't had much of a winter yet. Anything specific you want to know?

Coppell is part of the DFW metroplex. It is a big area. There are several lakes around here with a pretty good size hot boat crowd. The largest event in the immediate area for boats is the Tawakoni Hot Boat Regatta. The first one was 2 years ago and had ~100 hot boats in attendance. This year the weather was not as good but there was still ~70 boats there. You will be within 3 or 4 hours of Broken Bow. It is a beautiful clear lake. The Outlaws host events there on the major Holidays. There is no shortage of hot boats on the local lakes. You can be at 5 or 6 different lakes within an hour of Coppell. Lewisville, Texoma, Jo Pool, Lavon, Ray Hubbard, Eagle Mountain and the list goes on. It is not uncommon to have 15 - 20 hot boats in one place on any given weekend or even a weekday for that matter.

For camping there is plenty of places to go within a 2 or 3 hour drive. For bike riding it is a little more scarce. To find a place where you can camp, ride & boat is going to be hard.

Glad to see Robert (72 Hondo) responded.

Youngblood Jet boats is the home of the outlaws. There are a lot of pictures there from the Broken Bow and Tawakoni events as well as other events the Outlaws attend. Just click on the yellow links in the middle of the page for each event.

Might be worth signing up over at TexasHotBoats.com and browsing their forums. Lots of info there on the local boating scene.

TCCRA is good place to start looking for places to ride.
Texas Cross Country Racing Association (TCCRA)

Munster/Red River is a great place to ride and camp but no lake there. You can google for more info.

Broken Bow is a great place to camp and boat but the riding there sucks. You have to buy a permit and then it is all logging roads and you can't leave the roads.

Be sure to keep an eye on the "Hot Boats Down South" section of Performance Boats as well. Not much traffic there but it is a section dedicated to North Texas and the surrounding area.

I'd pick TX over CA any day. I travel all over for work (Live in AR) and the hospitality of the people in this area can't be beat. I'd say on average the weather is great 9 months out of the year. 2 months chilly to cold. Really there's usually only a month to 6 weeks that's cold cold (low 30s to high teens)

As already said, many nice lakes in the area. As far as events, Tawokani, Broken Bow, venture into AR (4-5 hours depending on the lake) and we do events at DeGray, Catherine, Ouachita River, and several others.

Great respones and infromation, we like the sound of all the lakes so close. Our boat is registered in NV, when we lives in CA, spent most of our time on Lake Mead and Mohave.

When it is cold there, it cannot compare to where we are now in Chicago.

We use the dirt bikes in the winter, not trying to boat and ride the same days. If we need to drive a couple hours, no big deal as long as there is territory to explore

From the pics I've seen of Mead and Mojave you will be disappointed by the quality of the water in our lakes. The visibility here is pretty bad compared to those lakes. The hot boat crowd is great though. That should make up for the water quality. LOL.
