Drag races southern MN and Omaha
Racing the Liquid Quarter Mile!Carter Lake, IASaturday, July 25, 2009 * 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Following Completion of Drag Races
The UMPBA normally only sponsors drag races in Minnesota. However, this year you can join in the fun right here in Nebraska/Iowa. You can hear the engines beginning to be warmed up at 9AM on Saturday. If you have never been to Boat Drags, you are definitely in for a treat. Unlike our automotive counterparts the entire Pit Area is open for access by everyone. Feel free to come up and talk with the racers. Drag Boat Races bring fun and excitement for the entire family and there are no spectator fees.
You've watched races. Maybe this year is your year to get out there yourself. To race, you need to:
· Be an UMPBA member ($25 annual membership fee). Sign up at http://www.umpba.org/memform.html.
· Complete the Race Pre-Registration Form. ($40 cost for each class per race entered)
Of course there are certain safety rules that you'll need to follow. The best way to see exactly what you'll need is to print out our regulations on umpba.org, and read through it to see what is required of both drivers and boats. Please remember that all of the rules are to help insure safety. A lot of things can happen while racing and these items are in place to help make it a safe and fun weekend.

This is going to be a great time. Going boating on the Missouri river friday morning and afternoon. Then the boat show at Quaker Steak and Lube friday night starting at 6:00. Thats a great place to have some wings! Then the side by side 1/4 mile boat drags on Saturday. Sunday there will be different choices on what to do. Some people will be heading to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo which if you havent seen, its a good time and one of Omaha's major attractions. Others might be heading back to do some more boating on the river.
Just wondering on who all is planning on showing up? If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call me at 402-598-7554. Also let me know if you will make it down for boating on the river earlier on friday and I can tell you where we are getting in at and how to get there.
We decided to move the zoo tour to friday at 1:00 and head to the river sunday morning. This will allow guys to keep their boats clean for the boat show friday night. However you dont want to miss out on sunday morning. It will be a lot of fun on the river because it offers a great place to boat with smooth water, beaches, restuarants, and bars. You can put the throttle down and run for miles if you like.
Jet boats welcome?
All boats are welcome. So far we have quite a few outboards along with jet boats and v-drives. We will even put together a jet ski class if we have the turnout we hope for. If its fast we want to see it! If you have any questions you can call Aaron at 402-598-7554 or call me at 402-499-2682. Hope to see you there.
Well I'll be there. I Don't know if it's fast I'm just finishing it up. I'm hoping it will be fast but I can't promise anything.
It's great to know that another jet drive will be there. We just finished meeting with another boat club that has grounds at the lake we will be racing at. The boats from that club are jet drives. We think it will be a great time for everyone and it will be nice to see boats of all types.
As of now we are expecting somewhere between 20-30 boats since this is our first year and considering the way the economy is. We have had alot of interest but so far we are not sure of the exact number. I would love to see alot more though. If anyone is interested and have any questions they can call me at 402-499-2682 or Aaron at 402-598-7554.
- Dont forget to pre-register at www.umpba.org .
I was out on Tonka Last THR, FRI, and SAT and the cops are just every place this year. Even at 5am on a week day. Really cracking down on noise in specific.
