Either Elephant Butte, aka the Butte. Or Navajo in the northwest corner. Drag races put on by Southwest Drag Boat Assoc.
    Good Luck.
    Thanks, Sundance

Thanks for the info. How far is the Butte. I pulled it up on the map and it looks like it's in the mountains.

Without towing it's a straight 1 hour and 45 min. Going 78 mph. It's I-25 all the way so it's eaiser than going to lakes on the salt river. It's not in the mtns. It reminds me of Rosevelt Lake. Mtns. around it. Plenty of room, approx. 20 -35 miles long. Plenty of area to park right on the beach. Some people stay at the Elephant Butte Inn. Hang out at the Ivory Tusk at the hotel. Cold beer and good steak and enchiladas.
Casa Taco down the road has the Best Tacos in Southern NM.
    Thanks, Sundance

That sounds great. An hour and a half is a haul. I'm 40 minutes from Saguaro. 55 to Canyon and An hour and a half from Apache. But it still sounds good

But unlike those places you can camp or hang out right on the beach. It's also interstate all the way. So traffic is minimul.
    Good luck.

Just talked to a customer down in LasCruces. One hour away from the Butte. He just moved here from Phoenix and has a boat. He was at the Butte over the holiday weekend. He said it was great, traffic wise, comared to the lakes around the valley. Big and open.
    Thanks, Sundance

The Southwest Drag Boat Assoc is racing this weekend at the Butte, come one down and check it out... even better bring a boat and race. They have several different mph classes depending on what you got.

I seem to remember a boat or two capable of 120, however the best we can do is rope off part of a cove of the public lake, so the water is never all that smooth. We have had a couple people campain 110 mph boats pretty sucessfully. Its kind of just an intimate small club thing, currently we have 15-25 boats and try to be done around 1 or 2 each day so that you can still enjoy being at the lake with the family the rest of the day. This weekend we will do a BBQ for everyone Saturday night also.

I can not make it this weekend but if you plan on going there are several people from PB that will be there PM me and I can get you a list of names. Be sure and drop by and say hi!
