Default What is the status for shaking the dam, 2010?

We had a great time at the 09 "Shakin the Dam" poker run, what is the story for 2010? Are those who thought they could do a better job going to step-up and put an event on? I hope so! Keep everyone informed if you can. I look forward to another great event at the old butte.

We were at the lake this weekend. Talking to a group of people. Talk is let's do another as we talked about last fall.
Want to work on event that would attract all sorts of boaters with the Big Preformance being the main draw.
I know a few people stepped forward and said they'd be will to help.
Give me you contact info and ideas and we'll start. I'm back and forth there quite a bit.
I'm in a slow part of my business for the next couple of weeks. Have some time.
By the way, I know most have put your boats aways for the season. But damn you're missing a great time of the year.
Just watch the Butte weather on you computer. When you've got 50 degrees plus and no wind you can't beet it. We ran Sat. Sun, and Monday accross a glass lake with no lake lice or other crazies on the lake.
Went to a party on the beach at Hot Springs. Had camp fires every night, cool sleeping. Dosen't get much better than that.
    Thanks, Sundance

Ditto...now is a great time of the year to go to the butte!! Especially when you have an outboard and no winterization is needed.

We were down for thanksgiving for a few days, was nice. Ill probably be going back down here in the next 2 weeks or so.

Winter boating is a blast. I have not been out this year due to time constraints but that is part of why I live in the southwest, mild winters. Good luck with putting something together. I hope you and the other volunteers are able to put an event on this year. I would like to volunteer but cannot guarantee I will have the time or energy to help out. If I can I will help in any way possible but I will have to wait until it gets closer to see. I have to admit I was more than a little frustrated when people came on here and bashed the organizers of last years event. My guess is that had a lot to do with why they are not going to participate and put the event on this year. I hope that you are able to gain support from those who had such strong opinions on ways to improve the event.
I will PM you my contact info. I would be willing to help where I can.

Havasu, Let's lay the cards on the table. I was the one that started the bitch fit. It's done and over with, let's move on and doing something to benifit everybody in our state and surrounding areas.
As I said in the begining of this thread a group of people want to do an event this year. When is up in the air.
In talking to Jim Nichols he said one of the determining factors to a successful event is the number of paricipants. Because of population and economics in our area it is tough.
Our idea is to have an event that attracts a large number of participants.
How? Have the normal poker run boats be the main event, talking to people who watched us last year they get a thrill from watching us run. Work with the SWDA to have a coresponding event during the weekend. Work with the bass club to have a tournament during the weekend. Have a class for lake lice. Have a class for pleasure boaters, including a kids poker class, maybe for them a game of hearts. Work with the C of C. Have a Big Boat, drag boat parade and show. Invite vendors.
We want something for everybody to have fun. We're all lake people, we all party, maybe in different ways, but we party.
The Butte needs to be the place to go in New Mexico as it was many years ago. Many newbes to the area don't understand what it holds for many of us.
My time is limited as with all of us, but I'm willing to start the ball rolling and walk my talk.
    Thanks, Sundance

    Hey Guys,

Just thought I would see how the planning is going? I'm up to my ears on our San Diego event in Sept. Trying to sell sponsorships and get people registered.

I hope you guys can pull off a nice event at the Butte this year.

Hey Jim, Good luck with the San Diego event!

    Anybody heard anything?

If nobody puts something formal together we should have an "unofficial" get together. Pick a date and go from there. I believe some guys did this last month. There were some custom boat owners that picked a date, met at the lake and I believe they coordinated a BBQ on the beach somewhere.

Yeah usually quite a few nice boats on the north side of long point (used to be) island....now I guess we can call it long point peninsula. A lot of us also hang out in the coves on either side of the black bluffs (depending on which is less crowded).

I have a couple of questions for everybody to think about. Then maybe we can ask Texas Dollar Bill Richardson!
Why has the lake gone down so much over the last several weeks?
Question #1 Isn't the Lower Rio Grande in Texas flooding?
Question#2 Isn't Lake Armstead on the Texas/Mexico border at it's highest point in over 30 years?
Question#3 Then why are they still releasing over 2,000 cfs out of the Butte?
Can't wait for the Carpet Bagger to leave the state for good!
The economy of Sierra County is suffering while $ Bill sends the water to Texas.
Attendance at the Butte was down almost 30,000 this Fourth as to opposed to last year. Not that I'm complaining.
Wouldn't it be nice if the Butte was filling up like Armstead?
Long Point would be an island again.
    Thanks, Sundance
