Default Would I miss the AZ

I am contemplating a move in the future to Albuquerque NM from Yuma AZ. I am an avid lower river boater and I love having sand bars to hang out on for bbq's and drinkin . I dont particularly want to get a new boat but a 90 open bow kachina lazer is a fairly shallow boat and swamps prety easy. My question is where in NM would I be able to boat and is there any where that is close to the style of boating that I am used to

Let's see. First and foremost, you will lose a couple months a year that you now enjoy due to climate change. Water is not as available in Albuquerque as it is in Yuma although the demographic would be similar in size. Others will surely chime in here with additional ideas.

I'm a new Mexican but from what I cather it's Navajo lake to the north or Ellephant Butte to the south both about 2 1/2 hours from Albq. Man, we all keep moving here Doc is going to build Firebird North.

I live in ABQ. and run a jet cruiser and earl smith tunnel at the butte. The butte has more sandy beach than any other lake in the state. Not as many performance boats here compared to Az. We do have a small drag boat club that races once a month at the butte. check our web site SWDBA.NET. Butte has warmer water than navajo also can launch from the beach at the butte not so at navajo. Even if you don't make the move come and play,we are using ihba clocks until they sell. look forward to meeting you.

I love the butte, its a wonderful lake. The sandy beaches are awesome. We dont have a huge amt of "cool" boats though, unless you think Baja's are cool.....there are a few cats out at the butte (twin ob carrera, htm, american offshore, etc). And some other stuff.

Navajo is a nice lake, but the water is a little cold for my liking. Ive never been a fan of ute. Conchas is fun though.

A 18 foot jet at the Butte is not a problem. I have even been fine in a small 17 ft performance outboard. You will miss the river however. In my younger single days I would make a trip to the river once a year...and I do miss those. The butte is the best we got and there is a lot of sandy beaches, and mini sandbar type areas so its not too bad.

Let us know once you get here.
