    Default Wichita/Kingman boating?

Hey guys - I'm new to the Kingman/Wichita area. I'm here for the windfarm and I'm looking forward to warmer (boating) weather.

Anyway - Lake Cheney is pretty close to me, but I don't know much about it or any other lakes in the area. Where is a good place to boat within a two hours radius? I'm running a jet boat, but it handles rough water pretty well.

That's where I grew up. Cheney probably gets as many drag boats as any lake in that area but my personal favorite was always Fall River. It's about an hour east of Wichita on 400/96, whatever you want to call it. You can take 54 or the turnpike to el dorado lake but it's pretty big and probably the roughest of the 3z fall river always has good water somewhere, no trees , and not terribly crowded. If you need any details beyond that, pm me your number and I'll tell you all you could ever want to know. CarnivalRide has a nice hondo flat and lives around derby, he would probably hook up with you sometime. If not, I know plenty that would. In my opinion, aside from the muddy water, fall river is the lake of choice with Cheney being second.

I'd say Cheney since you're right there. The jets and v-drives hangout at and around Hobie beach, Wichita Point and several make the run over to Party Cove to hangout.

Its a safe bet to find a few boats at Cheney on any given decent weekend. Fall River is hit and miss except on some holidays and when a group gets together out there.

El Dorado only has a few and I typically stay away from it because of the tree stumps.

Toronto lake is another one where a few guys hangout.

My recommendation is go to Cheney and start hanging out and get to know the boaters, they'll let you know when they're planning a Fall River or Toronto run.

    Welcome to Kansas.

What does the water level on Cheney look like this year?

Are there any restaurants/bars on the water?

    Default Elk City lake

Elk City lake is where we hangout or Big Hill every now and then. The rangers at big hill are not fond of jets over there and have a big presence all the time. Its about a 2 hour drive from Wichita. Its a muddy lake but a bigger lake. Theres a bunch of jets down here. Theres at least 6 TX-19s and a bunch of others. Are you workin in Howard or closer to Wichita? Welcome to Dorthy land.

Elk City is about 150 miles away. Not too far - if I get a chance I'll def head up that way. Had surgery, so I got slowed down on my boat progress by about a month. Nearly done now, though (I think).
