Pan temps will show what the oil has actually been heated up to. Anything over 250* begins to break down the oil faster. So if you are getting pan temps at 275*, you'll be inclined to change the oil more often than you would if you were monitoring post cooler temps and seeing 200*. Measuring temps after the cooler will indicate the oil temps that will be feeding the bearings. If course, the rear bearings will be getting cooler oil compared to the fronts that have tome to allow the oil to warm up more before it gets there. How many degrees? Would be interresting to find out. But I don't think its going to make any difference if you measure pan or pre cooler.
I like to see at least 200 and not over about 250.
You need 220 to evaporate any condensation.
Mine runs around 180 and will get to 230 in the summer running from the Bridge to Havasu Springs. I replaced the stock oil cooler (5" long) with a 12" unit from the same manufacturer when I added the Whipple.
on mine 180 was decent ,240 tops.
What would you guys consider a healthy oil temp measured at the pan or after the oil pump? (before the oil cooler) Whippled
