The lake or river water will provide far more than enough BTU's for cooling the air charge with a std intercooler.

In street cars, normally they cruise around with the a/c on, at the same time also storing the energy (cooling down several gallons of water for later use). When you go WOT for a short time, the compressor shuts off, and you have cold IATs for a short run.

This isn't practical for a boat which can run WOT for minutes.

Like Fonz69 said, you have a lake full of cool water. Use that.

    This.

Talked to Kenne-Bell about doing this years ago to my 01 Mustang GT. They experimented with it but couldn't overcome power loss of spinning the compressor and air flow restriction of the evaporator core.

you have a jet boat running on a lake or river right?

then if plumbed correctly you will have all the fresh cool water needed for a intercooler

plus think of the added weight gain vs HP gain is it really worth the trouble with the AC idea?

there is a company that builds one for the ford lightning truck that cools the external intercooler in the bumper area. they use a comercial coolant, can't remember what it was but it is supposed to use less hp to run. on a hot day the intake air temp was like 75* if i remember right.

There is a diminishing return on heat exchange. Having a cooler medium in the exchanger does not always equate to a cooler charge in a linear fashion. In otherwords you can only pull so many BTu's at a given exchange surface area. Cool lake water is typically more than enough in the instance of a boat motor. There is alot more to it, but this is the simple version.

So you are mentioning using a (similar to automotive) AC element inside of the intercooler instead of water/radiator style? I don't see any reason WHY it can't be done. The intercooler doesn't care where the cooling comes from - nor does the pressurized air. The extra cooling/HP just MIGHT overcome the losses of the extra hp needed to drive the compressor + the extra HP drag on the alternator for the electric fan for the condensor + the extra weight of all of that.

One could probably configure a water-cooled condensor setup instead of the larger finned unit with fan.

Only other consideration on the negative side would be the possibility of the intake charge overcoming the cooling capability. On a 100 degree (ambient) day, let's face it, most ACs are working pretty hard - and are on full blast for 90% of the time. What's your charge air temp??? 140? 180?
