    I have also been told most accurate in the middle of range. With that being said.....all the OP needs to do is make sure it is tight enough so the balancer does not "rattle" on the crankshaft. Again, these balancers are a slip fit, NOT a press fit.... hence the huge torque.
    Tighten the MF to 250, click, a little extra. Sleep well.

    I would be leery of the accuracy of the 250 lb setting on that torque wrench. A snap On repair guy told me that the torque wrenches are the most accurate in the mid ranges of their values. They aren't as near accurate on the extremes of the values. Don't know if he was full of BS or not. I would recommend finding a 300/350 +- Ft Lb wrench .

    Set it to 230# pull it mark it. Loosen. Set it to 250# pull it mark it. Loosen it set it to 250# pull it and add the distance between 230 and 250#. Bysides a rental torque multiplyer I would not trust a rental torque wrench

    Torque multiplier

    I work on a lot of heavy equipment in the field

    I have a couple snap-on torque multipliers to get mechanical advantage in tight spots and torque larger #s accurately using a 1/2 torque wrench

    It has a 1/2 inch sq input and a 3/4 sq inch output in a 4-1 gear reduction head

    the set up looks like a torque wrench plugged in a torque wrench you end up with two handles. Bar the multiplier and pull the torque wrench to tighten

    I use it a lot re-torquing suspension U bolts for strech, on big rigs and pinion nuts on trans and rear ends 500 to 900 #s

    You are missing 17#. That is less than 5% difference. Now, what lube were they specing that 267 with.
    The Dmax balancer is not a press fit, it is a slip fit, hence the big torque value to hold it in place.
    Plus the beating of the diesel cycle is harder than a std. bbc.

    I probably cranked my wrench down an extra 10 past the 250. Don't remember. It will be fine. Remember GM union guys put it together the first time. ROFL.

    Thanks, I'll call the rental shops and see what they have available. ToolTopia.com has really good prices on torque wrenches and stuff but still a little spendy for me at this time of the year.

    Yep, replacing everything that is a maintenance issue while I'm in there. I hope to not have to work on this for another 130k miles. thanks.

    Thanks Wags. after reading all the threads on here about how critical torque accuracy is I guess I'm a little over cautious. Seems kinda silly that a bbc balancer bolt is torqued to what 90ish lb. and spins approx. twice the rpm or more, yet the dmax balancer torque is 268 lb/ft, go figure. Maybe it has to do with the rotating mass? idk.

    The rental stores have torque multipliers or if you have a buddy at a heavy equiptment shop ask him if he has one available. Do the job right, otherwise you could do damage.

    i did the same thing, 1/2" extension wedged in between the tourque converter, than used my 1/2" digiital snap on POS tourque wrench until it maxed out, than a cunt hair more

    hope you changed the oring and the little 3" bypass hose while you were in there.

    torque value

    A little off the boat topic but it does pull my boat so.... anyone have a good recommendation of how to use my 250 lb/ft. click type torque wrench to accurately torque my h.balancer on my duramax to 267 lb/ft.? I have to replace the water pump and this is a req. step in the process. I've called the parts stores, rental yards etc. and the ones with rental/loaner programs only go up to 250# as well. I've considered 250# w /blue loctite but don't want to make it to difficult to remove next time around as it seems this is one of those 100k =/- maintenance issues. I'm just as concerned with over torque'g with my 3/4" drive breaker bar I will be using to remove it.
