    I believe that they are aren't they ? They have a push-me-pull-you effect that helps, but the packaging is not as good if I re-call correctly.

    and used a 90* crank to boot. it just isn't a boxer if it doesn't have a flat 180* crank

    I think that it's interesting that the engineers chose a boxster style flat eight as a pump.....Then powered it with a V-8.

    They must think a flat 8 is more efficient than a V-8 at pumping. Seems like they could of turned a conventional SBC into a compressor but went with to the expense to design and build a flat 8.

    No, as in multi-cylinder V that tapped a certain tiny ammount of the Nat gas in the line off to run the engine section, which drove the 3-stage sompressor section. Used for BIG cross-country line boosting of a lot of pressure.

    Only one I got into the building that housed it was in Utah while on a trip with dad a couple decades ago.

    Entire unit taller than a man, a TALL man. Entire end of the building was an row after row of heat exchangers & fans (radiators).
