Default Cen Cal. Pine Flat Lake

Any body boat at Pine Flat? Always lookin' to make some new friends. We have a houseboat and property on the lake, so I don't bother heading anywhere else. Check it out. It's a good lake.

    Daveo,

PF is in the Sierra Foothills, East of Fresno. It's a reservoir. A dam on the Kings River coming out of Sequoia Park. Very steep walls and tough day beach lake because of rocky beach one weekend, sand the next, mud the following. It's an ag lake, so it drops fast in the summer. Deep lake--572 ft at the dam. But once you have a houseboat, it's an awesome ski lake. Not too crazy. I've been spooked a few times (who hasn't?) by big boats at the River and Big boats coming out of Disco bay. Not much drama at PF.

When full, the lake holds 1 mill. acre/feet. As it follows the kings river, the lake snakes around. Good on windy days. Not sure about exact distances but at about 40 mph, it'll take you about 20 minutes to get from the Dam to Trimmer. From Trimmer on up is more or less the River. When full you can head up another 20-25 minutes from Trimmer to Kirch Flats. We like to spend the afternoon at Kirch flats when the lake is full. We boat up to where the river rafters are pulling out. We then hike up the road about a 1/2 mile and float back down through the last set of rapids (Rooster rapids). Very cool. That doesn't happen alot though. It's an ag lake (for farmers), so most years, by July4, the lakes is heading down at about 2 ft/day. About like Colorado river-ish or narrows of Nacimiento. Or as wide as the big sloughs on the Delta. Plenty of room for two boats to pass. Sometimes 3 or 4 but that's getting spooky. Even now, lake is only at 23% but you can still get past trimmer a mile or two.

Very nice lake. I've been to nearly every lake in Ca, including alot of time in the Deltas and the Sac River around Sac Town. It is worth the pull.

Oh-- Looks alot like Lime Saddle area of Lake Oroville, if you've been there.

If you're interested at some point, we have plenty of room (though we normally have lots of kids hangin' around-- Be warned For us, it's good. For others-- not so much..

Lake normally peaks around july 4 --anywhere for 600K (bad year) to 1million (good year)
drops around 2-3 ft/day by august. Lake stabilizes oct 1, normally around 400K. This year at 180K- getting marginal. Now at 230K and heading up. No real surprises under the water from this point on. From about 700K up to full, then you have to start worrying about wood (floats off the shore where was trapped last year when water started dropping, and washes down the Kings.) I've chunked 2 props in 20 years -- always when lake is full and hitting floaters. Rocked my world a few times skiing too when lake is full, in years past!!

Just checked because I'm curious. Lake is 180 feet below full right now-- still plenty of water.

Yep but I've never seen it enforced. There is no police on lake until Memorial anyway.

The police cruise the lake every 3 hours. And at sunset they sit in the same couple of areas waiting for speeders after dark. You kinda learn their schedule. Zoomies will get the boot though. I have seen that.

My place is directly above you. Next time you turn off of trimmer spirngs, down the road to your place, look up the hill to your left (above the turnout--just past your road). I've got the place up top.
Which is your place. 1st park or 2nd park as you head down? Can't miss my HB either. Only one I've seen with a 15 foot swimstep off of the back and an 8 ft tall "Krusty the Clown" sticker on the side. Blue and white HB. See you in the summer.

2nd park I believe. If you know the Cunha family, my place is right below their mobile home there.

    Cool

Sounds alot like Don Pedro, where I have relatives with a houseboat, minus the speed limit. Although the sheriffs are getting a little testy with noise and such since big money is moving in to the shores of the lake now.

I'd like to check out Pine Flat sometime myself.

Yeah...the speed limit is 50mph...which sucks 'cause I'm just barely cruising at that speed.

Yeah, there's a speed limit, but I've never had a problem and we've got some fast boats in the group. I don't even know anyone who's been pulled over for speed. Lots of "courtesy checks" for life jackets and throw cushion etc.

We do most of our boating at the top of the lake and you can see their distinctive boats from a couple of miles away. Probably cursing myself, but I can imagine any number of tickets happening before a speeding ticket.
