    Default engine builder in norcal

so i melted a piston in the 396 that came with my boat, would have been nice to know it had 12to1 comp pistons in it when i bought it. long story short i got screwed on this motor when i bought the boat a few months ago and now im in need of a new motor. im not going to waste any more money on this 2 bolt main 396 and i want to put a mild 454 in it. are there any reputable marine engine builders up here that you guys use? i live in the north bay so the closer the better. ive been refered to LJ speed and machine in napa by a co working and found cp engine performance out of yuba city but have not talked to anyone yet. so if any of you have heard about either of these two shops or have a knolegable good marine engine builder i would really appreciate it. thanks

I had many great motors from a one man shop in Chico. Bill @ B&B machine shop. I have never had one built at Morgans Machine Shop in Walnut Creek, Ca., but know he top notch. Good Luck, Steve

Morgans rocks. Once of the few true perfectionist in the norcal area. Follow his suggestions to the tee, and he will stand behind everything he builds. He is slow, but will be done right. Double check, not sure if he is still building complete engines though. He is across the MB store in WC.

Glad you had positive results from Morgans, cause I know more than one person on here besides myself who did not.

I would call TunnelBoat above. They have a top notch speed shop that has been around forever. I am sure he can point you in the right direction.
