Default Shootout versus Drags in Nor Cal?

If one was crazy enough to Promote & Produce an event featuring shoreline premier entertainment (floating concert stage), camping, VIP Hospitality area, Vendors and general good times in the Northern California area, what would be a better choice? Shootout with decent prize $$$ or Sanctioned drag racing? I could use your feedback and certainly appreciate your reply...thanks all Shoo ss

Shootout with decent prize $$$. I think you would get more people to participate then a sanctioned event. Depends on what you want to accomplish.

You must be from the east coast, its ok to "bust my balls" my dad did my whole childhood! I'm proposing a great weekend celebrating California's watersports lifestyle with top tier live music from a floating stage, VIP hospitality, Camping, Vendor Midway, Food & Beverage pavilion, potentially paired with drag boat racing, circle racing or good old fashioned "shootout" all mixed together. I'm a seasoned promoter so its not my first rodeo, however I would like input from the boating enthusiasts and boating forum faithful's before the details are announced. I'm looking at June 6-8, 2014, with a solid venue secured. I would like to hear what Joe has in mind so we don't step on each other. Thanks for the reply, any information is appreciated and welcomed...

I want to accomplish a great entertainment weekend paired with cool on-the-water activities in NOR CAL. I know this area is looking to bring the Red Bluff scene back and thought the "shootout" (with help from a friend) was a good way to start the climb back and see what type of support there is. Thank you for the reply...

We talked about doing on in the Rio Vista area. As far as location a few guys here would know perfect spots. Those Baller guys that live there with there big boats run the area all the time. Hey Dale. Can I crash at your place ?

If you are not Crazy Chris behind a new screen name you should probably do pretty well promoting in the Norcal Area. But if you screw these people over you will never promote another gig here again without permanent heckling.... just saying....

Good luck, "if you build it, people will come" (with their boats)

I'm not "Crazy Chris" but I am a bit nuts! I live in the area and assembling a real good team to promote and produce this event and do believe if we build it RIGHT, they (you) will come. Thanks for the reply...

Shootout with decent prize $$$ or Sanctioned drag racing?

    Whats the difference?
Wouldn't you want/need both? If you were just going Shootout, wouldn't you still need all the amenities that a sanctioned event would require ( rescue, timing lights, permits, insurance, ambulance etc etc). If your looking at it from a promoter side all you care about is "will people PAY to come out". I say yes. Your going to need some marquee boats to put butts in the seats and those boats wont come if the above thing aren't in place. I'm all for racing in Nor-cal and am willing to do what I can. Another factoid is the weekend you mentioned is right before fathers day weekend, and you know how that gos being from this area.

    BTW
Ive got a 9sec boat to contribute to the cause as long as theirs no conflicting schedules.

Thank you for the input, and bringing both is a consideration, however there is more expense to bringing a sanctioned series and will a local series (lets use NJBA for example) be compelling enough to the "casual" race fan? I'm sincerely asking the question and not implying anything. We chose the date based on the following: The week after memorial is graduation, fathers day is not an option, after fathers day we are concerned about the weather being too hot, prior to Memorial Weekend...? June 6-8 is pretty wide open based on our searches...
