it's kind of hard to tell how it was riding when you had the diverter up. With it down, it's riding pretty flat just like most any other boat would.

not that mine is anything special but here's a picture of how far back the boat breaks the water-

the diverter in this pic is up past the sweet spot but as you can see, most of the boat is out of the water.
What do you have as far as set-up? diverter for sure, do you have a ride plate? droop?

spooned bottom, loader, shoe, ride plate and I need to install the droop
in the video that is where the boat feels most free, but if I stay in it for very long the boat feels like it gets loose in the rear and when you let off to fast the boat wants to turn left, both feel very scary

found it, here's a video of my boat running, it's the one closest to the camera. You can see how the attitude of the boat changes as the diverter goes up.

By the sounds of it, you're probably going to have to play around with the shoe/ride plate set-up. It's probably be best to get the droop installed before spending a lot of time on it though. Since I don't have a shoe on mine, I really won't be able to give too nany suggestions on what to do.
I do know you will need to play with the depth of the shoe to find the optimum position.

what's the boat like on shut down? does the bow drop quickly and does the boat feel like brakes were applied? or does it feel like it glides freely for a ways?

it feels like hitting the the brakes and wants to turn left hard, if you dont let off slow it would throw you out

that's a real good indication of something hanging down too low below the keel. It could be the shoe, the loader or possibly both. The leading edges of the loader shouldn't be below the keel line. The shoe, as I mentioned will probably need to be adjusted up so it's not digging in so hard. Lots of fine tuning will be needed to get it right and it sounds like you need to do it.
Having a shut down like you're talking about can be a rather painful experience for anyone in the boat as you've probably already gathered.

thanks Tom! I just got lucky on the set-up. It ran good enough for what it is the first time out so I haven't touched the set-up since. I think I might lower the ride plate a little though. it's about 5º up right now, going to lower it to 4. I had a couple of squirily rides last year.
