I have a tom tom one its not great but cheap. I bought it a few years ago @199 you can probably get one for half that now. It did a good job navagting the delta when I went out there last year.

    Default Garmin 255W

It's convenient, shows bodies of water and accepts SD cards. I've used it on the Delta and Lake Berryessa. You can put your camera card in a view pictures right now!
Bought it a West Marine, $175.00.

Interesting... I was just starting to think about this yesterday and so conveniantly just found this thread... Do you use the same ones like in your car? Or do you buy one of the ones that made for hiking?

I noticed costco has a couple different ones that seem like fair prices, here's the hiker's version:

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...GarminColorado

And one that's compatible with road maps and such:

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...se=&lang=en-US

Will either of these units display names of sloughs and channels, etc...? Or also, will they give you speed and such?

If you want it to show you location on the water marinas, ramps, resturants, etc. then the garmin would be a good choice.otherwise the ones that have street maps will only show you that you are on the water and they do a very good job on basic location.

Check out the Magellan Explorist 200 seen them for 150, love mine worked awesome on Powell and everywhere I go. The only bummer is it wont lock/record your speed only real time... Otherwise it is very cool. It even shows aircraft. I use it 4 wheelin, boating and traveling. Waterways and all.
