Default Clear Lake vacation rental help

Well we usually rent a houseboat on Trinity, but with the lake the way it is we are looking at renting a house on Clear Lake the second week of July. Anyone able to help with what location to look in? I want a house on the lake with a dock. My boat isn't all that quiet, so I'm not sure how a house in a channel would be? I don't know the lake, so any help would be appreciated.

    Default Vacation Rental

We used to rent a house in the Buckingham are of Clear Lake which is between Konocti and the "Narrows". We rented from Andre Associates Real Estate. A lady that ran the real estate agency owned two houses next door to each other. We rented the smaller one. It had three bedrooms on the main level and a studio at water level. The house was pretty nice and had a dock and a small beach. Not sure if she still rents but thought it might help.

Here is a great site www.clearlakevacationrentals.com They have alot of homes with docs to choose from. I have rented many different homes along the lake. We like Lakeport. It seems to be the best place for calm water. If you can get something near Konocti that is a good area too. We like to go golfing at Buckingham a couple of times during our stay. Ask whom ever you are renting from if there doc is accessible during drought and heavy weed times.

Avoid the Clear lake oaks area. The canals don't get much water circulation so any kind of swimming from the docks is out of the question and it can be a long hot 5mph putt out to the open water.

Also check out the location of the nearest ramp. They are not always conveniently located.

This is funny. we rented that house about 12 years ago. Nice place but it is on those canals in the Oaks. The location is not as bad as some because it is not to far from the open water. Again though you won't want to swim from the dock.

True. Best ones are in between/around Lakeport and Konocti. I have seen more people with sail boats, pontoon boats and cabin cruisers weighing anchor and staying out on them. Boat with beds, be great if someone would work on getting rentals set-up around here in that catagory.

Good point. The house at Buckingham had a private ramp and free.

Buckingham is one of the nicer parts of the lake if you can find a rental there.

If nothing else comes up Konocti is not a bad place to stay either. You can rent a slip and they have 2 restaurants a bar and a pool.

Wow! Right on thanks you guys. Yeah we have a bunch of kids and my oldest graduates high school this year and is bringing friends. Gotta be able to swim from the porch. ha! I'm bringing the wakeboat and my Crusader and I can't leave it in the water overnight. I would never sleep. It just sits too low and I don't want to launch at 5am everyday to take them wakeboarding. So where's this Buckingham place? I missed the link or I'm blind....

Buckingham is between Soda Bay and Konocti, not really a place but an area.

We used to rent the Andre house in Buckingham. I heard recently that the Buckingham HOA doesn't allow people to do vacation rentals, but I dont know for sure. Did you check the vacation rental website. There might be some places fairly close to buckingham. Buckingham is just down the street from Konocti. Konocti is great for weekend type rental and is more of a motel type stay. If you see something that looks interesting ask the people on the boards we can tell you if the area is good and general location on the lake.

Here is a pic from the Lakeport side of the lake last July. During the week it seems like we have the whole lake to ourselves.Click image for larger version.

Cool. I don't really know the area well, but I drive past Clear lake a lot, although we haven't put a boat in there for a long time. Been to Konocti a few times and am going for Cheech & Chong in a few weeks. We are planning on going the week after July 4th. Still thumbing through the houses and trying to decide which side to go to. It's supposed to rain for the next week and a half, so maybe we will get the lake up. In my dreams....
