Default Some Q's for the Delta guys

So we are still trying to decide on our family get away the week before the 4th. My kids are wanting to go to wakeboard camp over at Tower Park and my grandpa has an island over by the old Correa ferry crossing. We are thinking of renting a houseboat out of Paradise Point and staying on the island and trying to clear it a bit. I'm bringing the roll bar boat and my tunnel, so while they are off doing their thing I can get my groove on. I have never been more than half a tank south of Garcia Bend, so I'm pretty much a tourist down there. Any help, idea's and places to go would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone that runs that stretch or water, I'd love to get a current idea of what the island looks like. I know it's a mess, but how big of one?? Thanks and maybe we'll see you in a few weeks!

You will have a thousand miles of protected fresh water sloughs to navigate and some salty ones if you head to San Fran (not so protected)
Get a GPS that has the delta points of interest
Or get a Hal Shall's Delta map
My favorite lunch run is Wimpys to Riverboat to deepwater channel to downtown Stockton to Discovery bay area to Frankstrack Sugar barge to Rio Vista (careful with wind if you have a little 18' pisspot like mine)
There is some killer Resturants/bars that cater to boaters, some favorites are
    Village West Garlic Bros
    Sugar Barge
    Orwoods
    Riverboat
    Windmill cove
    Outriggers
    Humphries
    Guisty's
    Wimpies

That's good info there. Food! Yeah I've got a 19' Crusader tunnel with about 4" of freeboard. Wind not soo goood... The idea of running through multiple tanks of fuel in a day and never passing the same spot just sounds sick! If grandpa's island is half what i hope it is, then I'll be down there a lot more this year with all the lakes so bad off.

I 2nd Hal's map but in the meantime, use google maps for a search for Tower Park Resort. You can zoom in and around to familiarize yourself with it all.
Here's the link to the CA Delta Chambers and Visitors Bureau with all kinds of info-

That is always the rule!! Tow ins for running out of gas are pretty humiliating.
We had a boat in Miller Park growing up, but my dad would never even go to Folsom, so basically, I know the mouth of the American to Garcia Bend pretty well.. lol.. I've been talking about resurrecting the island for a few years and with the kids maybe it would be a good summer project for the weekends. It's pretty small, but hey. if I can put in a dock and a tent site, that's a great start.
I've been checking google out and I have a basic idea of how to get around. The island is halfway between Paradise Point and Tower Park north of 8 Mile. Would be a nice run to Disco. Would be cool to meet some of you locals as well. 1st rounds on me..

I call it the brain tube, I've been telling her the more time she spends on it, the smarter it's going to make her.

I'm sure there is. Make sure to bring implements of destruction. It has got to be overgrown like no other. It's the small island southeast of where the Correia ferry crossing was. I don't know how to post a link from Google, but you take west 8 mile to Empire Tract and take the 1st right on North Correia Road up to where the ferry crossing was. I don't know if anyone one wants or can run by and take a look?? That would be cool..

If you do any upgrades other than clean-up, be aware of the Army Corp of Engineers.....been there done that. We had a place up there years ago with a dock that had been built long before we got there. Everything seemed to be ok until we did replaced 2 of the boards, using redwood to match existing.
The ACE came down on us with a ton of bricks saying the dock needed to be removed due to it infringing on the natural habitat of the musk rat. The fight went on for another few months when we opted out of renewing the lease. When I went back a few months later, the dock was gone.
I'd check into whether or not you can put one in but I wouldn't give any specific info as in where the property is.

Yeah Steve I figured it would be a long shot to put in a dock, but worth checking into. I have to go to so-cal this week for my daughters graduation. I am going to try to do a drive by on the island and see what it looks like. I know there is enough solid land and trees to make a nice campsite. I have no idea what the water surrounding the island holds or if you can even get into it through all the grass and reeds. like I said, it's worth a shot though.

So is anyone else going to be out the last week of June?

We're going to be out but it's our annual Shasta trip. We're heading up there on the 24th of June and coming back on the 1st.
If you're interested, we have our Annual Tower Park outing at the end of July that you're more than welcome to join in on. A few of us will be going in on the 29th of July and staying for 5 days and most everyone else comes in on the 30th or the 31st.
