    Default fuel gauge not working

    I have a new to me 2001 shockwave step steer. with 2 tanks and 1 fuel gauge the gauge reads full at all times on both tanks it still switches over from right to left fuel tank and still reads full . I checked all the wiring on the back of the gauge everything looks good. any suggestions would help is it a bad gauge or bad connection at the sending unit

    Default Short to ground?

    It sounds like somewhere the signal wire is connected (shorted) to a ground source. I assume you have a switch that both sending units are wired to? If so, the problem should be between the switch and the gauge.

    There should be a ground wire (supply) to each of the sending units. From there a wire takes signal towards the gauge. If a sending unit has gone bad (unlikely that both are bad) the gauge will usually not read Empty.

    I agree with above. Highly unlikely that both sending units went bad. Therefore, I would start looking at what is common for the whole system. Gauge, switch, and in-between those.

    I do have a switch on my dash that switches from right to left tank I will check that out thank you

    I want to replace the switch on the dash That switches from right to left tank. my boat is stored at the river does anyone know how many connectors are on the back of the switch. I would like to order 1 and take it with me. I think the problem is in the switch. the fuel gauge was working when I switched tanks from right to left is when they gauge stopped working

    Take the boat home. You will buy a switch and it will be the wrong one. You will cut and crimp wires and they will not be the right length. For goodness sake, just drag the thing home where you can walk out and work on it! It's 4.5 hours ONE WAY for me, but I drag the boat back and forth so I can have it here to service and work on. Would drive me nuts not to have it here.
