Default New Old Nordic Viking 26' ???

    Hello All!

I sold my 1979 Glastron CV23 which was in mint condition and just bought a 1985 Nordic 26 closed bow. The boat only has 200 hrs, one owner and looks almost new! I almost got screwed on another Nordic 26 in Lake Havasu last year and got lucky finding this one in Portland where I live. The new 26 just has a Volve 290A engine with a 290 outdrive. How good of a setup is this as I have never had a Volve? I wish it had a big block but, I guess a will live with the smaller engine. It is not a thru exhaust is there any proformance gain from doing that? Also, is there a fuel savings with the smaller motor and what is the top speed for this boat with this engine. I sure love these old school boats! Thanks for any help! Dan

Nice old school Nordic. I have always wanted one, but the BOAT acronym talks me out of it.

I have always been told that bigger is better, and bigger uses more fuel. It's a physics thing.

Why not go for the gusto and go BIG block.

I just going to change all the fluids and replace fuel lines to be safe. The gel coat looks new and the seller said that it has never been buffed just waxed. The engine still has the factory dist cap on!! But Im going to replace all of the parts to make it reliable.

Just pulled the rear seats and engine cover to check it out very clean and no surprises. Just needs a wash to get the dusty off.

man that boat looks just like my nordic 23 ft. even the paint is real close.i have a 290 engine with a 280 outdrive. with a 17 pitch stainless prop and 20 gallons of fuel in each side tank,my boat goes 45 mph at 5200 rpms.there should be a rev.limiter on the transom that comes in at 5200rpms.look at my profile and you will see a front shot of my boat. i have ran a 19 and 21 pitch prop on my boat. and if skiing or wake boarding, the 17 pitch prop is perfect for that.just running around, the 19 is good but with reduced rpms.the 21 pitch is allright but it really dont push the boat any faster than the 19.just a heads up,be carefull with the front seats, its easy to pull the bolts out of the floor with people leaning on them or comeing out of the cabin grabbing the seats.i have found that by running the boat at 3500rpms,with the boat trimed up,it gets way better fuel saveings because iam only running on the primarys on the carb.at lake powell and at the sacramento delta cruiseing around the 19 prop is the way to go with my boat.if your boat has a PRESTOLITE dist. make sure you get a VOLVO PENTA cap and rotor as i have had misfire problems with aftermarket caps and rotors and the dist. cap seal not fitting tight to the dist. body
