I beach my Formula 292 Fastech a lot-with the low water only pick ups its a PIA trying not to suck up crap (which I have done before). Would it be acceptable to install thru hull fittings and a strainer and bypass the outdrive pick ups? I dont do a lot of rough weather boating so it stays in the water the majority of the time-I was concerned that if the hull went airborn I would suck air but that wont happen too often, any thoughts?

I don't think you'll have a problem... I run through hull pick ups on my 24 Skater and have never had a problem.
It's out of the water quite a bit but water pressure says pretty stable.
