    help with my crownline

    I just bought a 03 crownline br 27ft with a 496 in it, has the bravo 3 drive. The guy i bought it from said his average top speed was 57 -58 mph, he said he has hit 60mph before with only 2 people on it and half a tank of gas. I have not been able to go faster then 48mph, is it possible that the props are dinged up and im losing top speed or is he full of crap?
    Can this boat hit 60mph???????????

    Also i was told if i change the lower unit to an x drive i can gain 5-8 mph is this true????

    And finaly i want to build the motor this winter which direction do you think is the best bang for my buck and best for the motor, whipple charger, pro charger, or just build the motor???????

    Bravo 3 is duo prop and BravoX is a single? If you change it it may not get on plane as fast or as easily, it would work but you would have to play with it.
    What rpm are you seeing, Trim angle, and pitch of props? Is it a trailered boat or a boat that sits in water or on hoist?

    where are you using the boat in Havasu the heat is killing the performance I would see if you could try an x drive before you buy one the x dimension may be different between the bravo one and three

    im seeing about 4400 rpms, not sure on the pitch of the props, i know they are what came on it stock, i will check that this week end, the boat does sit in the water boat even when it was clean it wasnt going faster then 50

    I haven't found the big Crownline that I couldn't chase down and catch with my 50MPH jet day cruiser. I would say he may have thought he was going faster, but if you're using a GPS as opposed to the water speedo it probably came with, then you can imagine where the difference comes from.

    A Crownline isn't built for speed, they are built really nice though. If you're hitting 50 with it, I'd just run it and enjoy it. I have found that I really don't need more than that on the family boat. (unless someone shows up with a 70 MPH Bayliner, then we'll both need more top end just to keep face).
