Default Need help choosing an outboard for mini daytona sprint 12'6"

I just noticed that I posted this in "outdrives". I meant to post it in "outboards". If anyone can tell me how to move it to outboards, I will.

Hello. I'm somewhat new here. I have been surfing this sight for a couple years and it has been extremely helpful. Anyway, I'm getting ready to do a mini build. I picked up a daytona sprint shell. It's 12'6" in length. Someone put a lot of work into this one. (See pics)
I would like to mount a 50hp with power tilt and use a hydraulic trim with minimal setback. But almost all the mini sprints I've seen have a tohatsu 40 without power tilt. I'm sure it is do to the light weight. The motors are also mounted back about 12". (See pic)
I did find one with a 50hp merc with power trim. But it was just pics, no info. It looks like it has a 20" shaft witch allows you to mount the outboard closer to the boat when tilted. (See pics) Any input would be much appreciated.

The boat is currently in LHC. I think I'm going to send it over to TLM. But I need to figure out the outboard setup first. Also, I should add that I have an 08 merc 50 with power tilt. It has a 20" shaft. I would like to use it if possible.

I can hook you up with the best person to get you what you need for that killer "mini-K" boat you just picked up. First, I need the measurement from the bottom of the boat to the top of the transom (not the built in splash guard). You'll end up with a 50hp short shaft or 44XS short shaft mounted on a setback bracket. It will be way cooler than those 20" mid motors!

Hey Rayzor. Thanks for the reply. The transom is about 18 1/4". I'm not in havasu right now but I found a build thread of another mini sprint. Here is a pic...

Forward that transom measurement pic and pics of your boat to Chris Fairchild at [email protected] and tell him Dale Rayzor told you to contact him to purchase a motor. Tell him the performance you're looking for and what you're looking to spend, and he will find you the correct motor for your needs at the best price. He is one of the leading outboard race engine builders/F1 tunnel boat drivers and he also is VERY well connected with Mercury Racing and all things performance outboard related. I've done lots of business with him and he is a very stand up guy - he is definitely the person to get you a very nice motor shipped to your doorstep!
