Default Question: Alpha 1 gen 1 vs gen 2

I currently have a alpha one, gen 1. I've been thinking about swapping out the gen 1 for a gen 2. Is there any benefits to installing the gen 2? I plan to replace the gimbal housing and the out drive complete. Will the holes in the transom line up or do I need to drill new holes?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

If yours has a drive lube bottle then the only note worthy difference is Gen 2 uses a larger impeller

The gen 2 alpha is a more improved drive over the MR alpha for sure..better u joints & bellows, has improved gear ratio which doesn't howl, better sealing in the upper which won't kill the driven gear if the lower back to back seal fails, an alarm on the lube bottle ...which may save it from a low lube failure and a much improved raw water pump, also has a built in speedo.....and it's easier to service.....I know guys who have over 1500 hours on them in the ocean...

thanks for the info! I really want to know if the gimbel/transom housing will fit in the gen l opening or is major modification involved (i.e. drill more holes, new flywheel, etc..) Any advise is much appreciated.
