Hello, not sure where to post this question, but anyone who is familiar with common, modern, inboard outboard types of boats may be able to help. I have a basket case 1996 Ebbtide bowrider with a genV 454. I acquired the boat with the engine in pieces and all wiring and accessories in a large tote. The engine is carburated with a Q-jet but the distributor is a late model HEI with no advance mechanism inside. I know on cars this style of distributor gets its timing advance from the ECM which is fed to the ignition module. Question is, would my boat have a computer located somewhere just to control the timing? Or is the timing locked out, if so where should it be set? I know the history of the boat and it has always been carburated and has had the same distributor.
