There are plastic side plates that are used as wear plates that attach to both inside edges of the lower gimbal. There are also fiber bushings on either sides of the swivel pins to keep the helmet/ belhousing centered better so not to rub.
Wear plastic plate on starboard side it broke due to the fact that there's no clearance. Looks like the drive shifted some how to the side. There's a a bigger clearance on the port side. CHecked for fiber and stainless steel washer on the helmet seems ok. Swivel bols for the gimbal ring are nice and tight. What else should i look for?
Check the movement on the helmet for up/ down. Old style used a stainless threaded pin that threads into the helmet and will wear on the aluminum on the gimbal ring where the pins go through causing slop and the helmet will shift. The new ones bolt into the gimbal ring and use a bushing on the helmet.
Starboard side is the thrust side. It needs to have the wear pads in there.
ON another note, check the top and bottom steering pins. Trim the drive down, grab the skeg and try to move the drive from left to right. Not turning it, but as if you were trying to rotate it like the hands of a clock.
