    Default Help with outdrive cooling.

My outdrive seems to be getting hot, the paint on the gear case is faded ond has a white film on it. I'am running a eddie marine drive shower but it does not seem to be working well. My X-dimension is on the high side i dont know if that makes a difference or not. The drive is a XR with the ribbed top cap and a sportmaster lower unit 2 inch shorty. thanks for any input of maybe a bettet drive shower for my application

Well obviously that drive shower is just wasting space, check out the dual pickup tube style showers by just wicked and simereck. Those seem to work alot better and i'm pretty sure they make them for xr's http://www.justwickedmarine.com/ I've never been able to find a website for simerek, I've put them on a couple boats and never had complaints, I think the caps are kinda hit and miss and more show than anything else.

Your water pickups are too short so at speed with trim it is not picking up enough pressure. Problem with cats. You need the extension on the pickup or pickups. I would try the Simrek Halo with the adjustable pickups. www.driveshowers.com

We have made a install kit for the XR finned cap so that you can use the Crossfire (Just Wicked Marine) drive shower. See it here. Just add part #130-1007 XR/ITS Install kit for finned caps for $17.99.

I have the dana shower with the big water scoop. It runs a lot of water over the drive. The only problem I have had is a piece of wood got stuck in it(floating debris field) and it was a pain to get it out. I believe that this shower will work on the fin type cap.

What temp is it running at? Is the oil breaking down?

If you are on plane for extended periods, the hard water deposits from the river will form as a chalky film....even on cool drives. It will come off with CLR.
