Let me start by saying I'm a jet guy & know nothing about outdrives. I'm looking for a winter project & found a possible candiate. It has a Volvo Penta 290 drive on the transom now. The owner says & I quote,
"Outdrive does go bleed down slowly while sitting on trailer. Outdrive does not have reverse kick rod. Both of these items do not affect the performance of the out drive".
In your opinion is this a deal killer? I don't want to spend thousands to repair a junk outdrive.
The hull now has a dead 350 sbc. I was planning to upgrade to a 454 BBC at about 350-400 HP. Will the Volvo 290 drive handle the extra hp?
Thanks in advance for your expertise....-Rich
