    Default Alpha 1 replacement

I have an 87 Hallett vector 21 454 merc and an alpha 1
Im looking to replace my outdrive for a stronger unit
any advice on a problem free strong unit that I'll be able to bolt up that will handle motor upgrades to follow ?

Just get a complete Bravo. Later model 1.5 ratio. You'll be happy might even be able to use some me your same propellers. I've did that swap before myself.

So is this literally a bolt on swap ? Shift cable input shaft splines and the 6 bolts that hold the gearbox to the transom assembly are the same ?
And when you say later model like a bravo x or xr ?
Also are there any other drives that would be a good bolt in swap here ?

I don't think there is any "bolt on" upgrade swap for the Alpha drive. A friend I was helping out here in Parker had to replace a drive yesterday after breaking it the day before, since he had people flying in from out of town today for his birthday, and wanted a running boat. In doing research the day before when it broke, I was told they first put a big block package in front of an Alpha in 1987, and didn't do it long since they had so many problems.
