    Default 1979 SleekCraft Volvo Conversion

    1979 SleekCraft 23` Executive.
I`m in the process of converting my old Volvo 280 over to the newer SX drive. I know, why not a Bravo? Simply put....money. I manged to get a hold of a complete SX drive with the bell housing and all the goodies for super cheap. The hull the SX belonged to was crushed by an oak tree, bad for the hull....good for me. I got the transom adapter plate made by Volvo ready to go. All I need is a couple a good sunny days and I should be able to knock out most of the big stuff. I need a little info though.......power steering. I have a in line oil cooler and soon will have a in line power steering cooler as well. How is your plumbing setup for this? and can I just use a automotive power steering pump?(one thing I didn't get). Any thoughts would be great......Thanks

What happened to your 280? They are supposed to be really good drives.

Nice looking boat you have there BTW. What engine?

Plumb your cooler into the PS return line.

I have twin 280s on my 36' Sleekcraft and never had issues of any kind.

Thanks for the replies. The 280 is a great drive and there is nothing wrong with the one I have. The SX has only 15 hours on it and the price was to good to resist. It came with everything I needed except for the power steering pump. Figured it was a good time for the upgrade. As for the power steering cooler I understand the plumbing for the fluid but am unsure were to put it in the waterline. Pickup to the engine oil cooler to the pump.....were to put the fluid cooler? After the oil cooler? Between the pump and the engine? OH! the engine is a 350 w/vortec heads and IMCO exhaust. Possible a BBC next year.
