Default Help with a possible purchase......

Ive been hanging out here for a while checking out all the cool rides and am now looking to buy a cat. I picked up a 08 Trick 21 with a 300XS ( spent most of my forum time on S&F last summer ) on it last year and sold it so im in the market for another boat.

I have been looking for something around a 22' maybe a 24' with either a single or twin outboards, but have not come across anything that has jumped out at me. I am a fan of HP so a cammed up big block always catched my attention as well, just have never had one in a boat.

I found a 1998 Carrera 257 effects X 25 with a supercharged 540 pushing 1150 HP, this sounds like some good fun but I cant find much info on any forums re these boats. Does anyone have any links to pics and info on these?

Im concerned it may be too big ..... my 21' Trick was a good size, we have no chop in our lake at all, it is always calm. I assume a 25' boat would feel and drive much larger than the 21, any thoughts on this size of boat in smooth water? is it a waste?

Re the motor ..... it has 65 hours run time, how many hours does a motor like this get before some freshining up is needed?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i think a 100mph 25' boat in flat water would get boring after awhile. nothing like having a 21' boat at 100mph with those conditions. so yes the 25' is a huge difference over a 21. good luck man.

For sure, the 21 Trick seemed crazy fast. Im told the 25 does 130 ??

Would 1150 HP run this hull into this MPH range? i would expect this might add a little more fun if it does..

Any chance anyone has video on these boats ?

    Thanks MB

1150 hp would make one very fast boat in a 25.

Well if it is boring on a lake I think maybe taking it offshore could spice things up.

Talk to Danny, DCM on PerformanceBoats.com; BadBlown572 on RiverDavesPlace.com. Not only did Danny own a Carerra 257 with big power he also worked for Carerra as a rigger.

I'd be concerned what drive?? That is a lot of HP, and the drive might be the weak link? Then manners around the dock with the big motor. Your going to have to watch shifting in and out of gear to handle at the dock. The Trick's really handle way better in the chop or ruffled water. I had a S/C American Offshore before with the IMCO SC OD. So I have had some of both! Good luck!

The boat has a short XR with a 1.5 ratio with a stand off box by Bergioron Engineering.

Im new at this so what does that tell me??

It tells you someone has thought of the drive. Without knowing exactly what was done to the drive, you won't be able to guessimate the longevity. Regardless of what was done, Bravo style drives with BIG power = a broken drive at some point. Since you don't see any choppy water, that will help, but shifting in and out of gear around docks might best be done while the engine is off.
