    Default What to do???

Have a real nice boat. Caliber 1 206 Magnum. Has open bow. Anyway. Has a 350 mag and Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive. Only 440 hrs. Motor never apart and drive only for service and impeller changes. Motor runs perfect. Does not burn oil, leak anything and runs strong. I WANT MORE POWER. Do I build a nice small block and keep Alpha or go BBC and a Bravo? Now by answering this question it will create at least a dozen more. I am thinking 450-500 H-P. To get that out of a SBC I think I will be turning to many RPM's. Can get it out of a BBC at 5000 RPM no problem with a mild motor. What way do I go????

you can achieve the power you want with the small block in the rpm range under 5000 but it will cost you more money to do possibly. there are different ways of getting it too. you didnt specify if you have efi or not but you could maybe bolt on a centrifugal supercharger like a procharger, paxton type and get up to another 150 hp. or you could use what you have(block) and build a stroker motor with a good set of heads and nice cam and exhaust. but the big block is a lot easier to get the horsepower and torque you will want with the better drive too. if you build a big block you could build it with the option if you want to add a supercharger and make even more power. plan wisely and talk and take to reputable engine builders for their advice.

remember you gonna push the limits of the Alpha drive with that much power. To do a bravo conversion is gonna cost a bit to do also along with a bigblock. Also with you 20 foot boat consider weight on the transom with the BBC and Drive combo. Now you could build a rippen small block with a stock bravo or even a bravo X...
Did you give up on the bigger boat project?

i would build a good strong small block being the boat is only 20' get rid of the alpha setup go with a bravo and run a supercharger like i mentioned above. you won't need much torque with that size boat anyway. plus you have to consider that the big block might not fit under the engine cover depending on the size of the engine compartment. you should be able to build something pretty good for cheap with so much small block chevy stuff out there. maybe a nice 383 stroker motor. you know mercury marine offers some nice reman engines that make nice power for a affordable price with a warranty which can be extended. keep the warranty in mind.

Have not give up on a bigger boat yet. I have let others help in the decision on what to buy and now I am leaning to a deck boat but not the performance type. More of a family thing. Like a Chaparral. Will talk to you later. See what we can do.

to get more speed it not hard. to add a few more mph, cut back on the cheese burgers. lol instead of a new build maybe put a paxton on it. that sure dont look like a armpit
