Remember....keep the sander flat. No rolling up on the side / edge. It will show. Good luck. And keep the sander moving.

Hey Billy, I'm in the middle of a resto on my 70 Hondo flat. The deck is all spider webbed and I sanded it down to the gel coat and it's also cracked. I'm guessing I have to take it down to the glass. What material should I use on the deck? I'm using West System epoxy

So sorry for the late response. Nobody had been asking any ??? for so long I hadn't checked in. I'm sure your past the point of needing my help. But by chance your not here is what I do. I ship the boat to my glass guy....lol..The gel does need to come off all the way down to the glass. Chances are the glass will have those cracks as well. Glass / deck then gets grinded or sanded & a new layer of glass put on it. Once all the steps are taken to smooth out the new glass you can prime in epoxy or polyester primer & your ready for paint. If you don't remove all the cracked area down to the glass your wasting your time. Those cracks will reappear again...TRUST ME. Good luck. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call the shop. I will try & help you out...909-982-8555.
