Default best campground around lake Powell?

Im looking at spending a few days with the boat on lake powell in the fall. Anyone have advice on a campground? Will be towing a 36ft 5th wheel with one truck and a 20ft boat with another. Also recomendations for cool places on the lake? thanks

Cool places on Lake Powell? Just about everywhere on Lake Powell is cool. But it's so big, nothing is close.
Rainbow Bridge is like 80 miles round trip. Navajo Canyon is pretty bad ass and it's not that far from Antelope. As for campgrounds, I think there's 3.

Lone rock beach(near wahweep) is nice.....beer and fuel is 5 or so min away. Bullfrog is my least fav......if its windy at all bullfrog bay can make it so you cant even get off shore.
Its all awesome....but I think labyrinth canyon, rainbow bridge, and the entire escelante arm are some of my favs.
I plan on being there in sept. again at the same time as the lake powell challenge.

Awesome. I can't wait. It'll be our first time there. Watched a video on YouTube of lone rock beach. Looks nice as long as I bring a generator. I assume it's got a hard packed parking area? Last thing I want to do is get stuck with a 2wd truck and a big camper.

Its both sand and some hard pack.....if you pick the right road you will be ok.lol I have been stuck a time or two.....but that was my fault.
If ya get bored you can youtube NUTTZ beach party preview 2015....that should pull up some footage from last years poker run.
Our jet boat club hosted the party after the poker run. If I remember right my buddy and his wife cooked over 600 burgers. lol

Not much choices. Its either wawheap and away from the water with hook ups or its lone rock right one the beach with no hook ups or assigned spots. And yes beer and ice is 5 min away along with fuel.

We have been going since 87 and stay at lone rock each time.

lone rock sounds like a good choice. I'll just pick up one of the quiet Honda generators so we aren't be obnoxious. Been looking for a reason to buy one anyway. Where does everybody launch from?
Also anybody know if this is labyrinth canyon?

We have always lauched from the shore there its not hard esp if you have 4wd.The sand can be soft in some places but you will see what areas to avoid there if you have 4wd no biggie just air it down.I also have a honda 3k its nice but after 10 theres no generators allowed to be on it sucks if its warm out at night. One year i camped at end of beach and ran mine had no complaints but every where else where theres others near you wont get away with it.

Great to take a few 5 gallon cans so you can get fuel at the local gas station way cheaper than marina and always make sure you top off before eachtrip you take.If you plan on going pretty far up the lake theres dangling rope marina and its best to top off there again to be on the safe side plus you can get an ice cream there.

If you are looking for a developed RV campground with hookups you may consider the RV campground at Halls Crossing. We have stayed there with our RV and launched at the marina. It's convenient in the fact that you can traverse each direction on the lake from somewhat of a midpoint each day.

I tracked that down once but don't remember what the name is- I used that pic as my background at work off and on.

Back in 69 we went up to Oak Canyon and camped for two weeks- That lake is like the Grand Canyon, but easily accessible. We were in canyons so narrow we had people on either side holding the boat off the rocks- And we were able to visit Cathedral of the Desert which makes the rest of Powell kind of pedestrian. When we left at 9 am, the wind started to come up- by the time we were committed, the waves were over 6', and at one point we were in 12' waves- in a 16' boat- Luckily, it was NOT a bowrider, and had a solid plexi windshield and our top was up- with the back of the boat filled with camping gear....Our friend's boat was flipping over the waves so hard the prop was coming out of the water! Not big long swells, but sharp bathtub slosh waves. We pulled the plug on the boat at 6 pm in page and at 6 am it was still draining. Pay attention to weather reports and if they say "Big blow" take that seriously.

On some Dory site, a guy was there when a big rain storm came thru- water falls off of every cliff.....I wish I still had that site saved.

Hey, I found the site- C-Brats....Punch in C-brats lake Powell rain storm. The pics are gone from the site, but click on the bottom of the guys info; Tony (TBD) and it will take you to his pics- The far right one will expand into a bunch of pics- and quite honestly, there isn't a bad pic in the whole lot.

Ha! I found it- I knew it was up lake approx' half way on the western side- That is Reflection Canyon, near the mouth- The pic is taken from in the canyon looking towards the mouth....Basically from the NW shooting towards the SE. The water is higher in Google Earth.

From last august in cathedral in the desert. This pic is at the top of the waterfall/cliff there we just squeezed thru the narrow part and went around the corner and kicked back on a small sand bar.IMO its a more scenic spot in this spot when the water is lower about 15-20ft but its still a place to go for sure.

The other pic with the boat in it is in navajo canyon at the sand dune.
