Default 1980 Hydro Tech (20ft tunnel) Merc/ Inboard (ever heard of or seen one)???

Looking to repower this older true tunnel, no center pod inboard. But I've never heard of this boat, never seen one, and can't find any history of the builder. Im thinking this was a splash of an old sanger, or something close built on the west coast. I have the title but the boat has no Vin on the hull. It was originally equipped with an early Alpha drive and a chevy small block. Boat is built well and is still very solid. Gel coat not so much in great shape and has some repairs to the bow, but stringers, tunnels, and transom are good. Even has original upholstery and Mercury outdrive with aluminum glenwood logs. From what i can tell this boat had little run time. looking for any info on the boat, if they handle above 70MPH and if it's worth putting a hearty small block back in it with a bravo 1 to push the boat. any info on Hydro Tech or this boat is greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

That thing is going to be a drive killer. Whackering it would be the best bet.

I haven't heard of them. It doesn't look like a Sanger Alley Cat to me (Maybe it is a splashed bottom). You may try posting it on River Daves Place dot com also.

It looks like it would be a cool boat when it is restored. Can you post a pic from the side so we can see the profile of the boat?

It was for sale in Reno/ Tahoe Craigslist. That's where I picked it up. It was all in parts, but all there except for the motor and rub rail. I will post a side pick soon, snowing and raining like crazy up here and got it all covered up. Mike

I'll take a wild stab at this, but from the photos it looks like it might be a Ted Jones (aka Ted and Ron Jones of Unlimited Hydro fame) cat with very shallow deadrise on the sponsons and no center pod. But like I said just a wild guess.

Looks to be very similar to a Ron Jones tunnel. Did some research and found two larger cats that have the same lines on the deck with almost the exact looking windshield mold. They also had inboards and some merc outboards as well. Thank you so much for the info. Feeling so much better going forth with the restoration. Here are a couple pictures of what I found. Thanks again for your input twocentsless , you really made my day. Mike
