Default Water pick up thoughts ?

I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison of the efficiency of different water pick ups shapes to see which shape flowed the most water ?

if you can achieve a laminar flow inside the pickup and through the system you can improve the flow rate.. then you have to improve heat transfer because of the better flow rate due to the laminar flow...

just some input.. if U have questions hit me up..

I have always thought of having the surface of a golfball but inside the tube... mind you hard af to manufacture but it would create a sweet boundary layer around the ID of the tube which would improve laminar flow inside said tube due to lower surface friction on the id of the pipe... only problem would be you would have to increase the od/id of the pipe to allow the boundry layer and the laminar flow inside the tube

Do you mean that v-drives are the only boats that have a water pick up ?

Well, in our realm of interest I kinda think V-drives and direct drive inboards have the thru-hull type of water pickups. Jets have none and stern-drive and outboards generally pickup water thru the lower drive housing. Jocko
