I was told that friends in Havasu and on PB have asked how Michael (Essex502 and Howard) is doing. Its been 14 Unbelievably Painful Months that Michael has been dealing with this illness (GBS). However, with that said, there is IMPROVEMENT! Currently he is being treated for weaning off the ventilator. Yes, he's been on the ventilator for over a year, and its a long, slow process trying to wean off. There is movement in his arms, wrists, shoulders and neck area. Its not full range of motion and its still shakey, but we're moving along, day by day. Its been hard for him. Not being able to talk or communicate with me or anyone else, its been EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING for him, to say the least. I am working on getting this device that works with your eyes to communicate on a computer. He would be able to type out letters, answer emails, go on the internet, answer the telephone and it can speak the words as well. Until he is off the vent and talking on his own, this will be the next best thing. This is a slow (insurance) process as well. But he is still hanging in there, although its been very hard for him, frustrating and painful. He looks good tho! I hope and pray - maybe THIS YEAR, we'll be back out to Havasu. Thank you to all that have kept Michael in their prayers and ask about him.
