SCREW CARB THE EPA AND HIPPIES AND TREE HUGGERS.
DIESEL ENGINES SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ATTACKED THE WAY THAT HAVE BEEN. ITS THE GAS ENGINES AND THE BILLIONS OF THEM THAT ARE KILLING THE EARTH. ON TOP OF THAT ALL THESE NEW BS LAWS ARE GOING TO PUT HUNDREDS OF OWNER OPERATORS OUT OF BIZ. I SEE NOTHING BUT BAD THINGS THAT WILL COME OF THIS CRAP.

    IM JUST SAYIN
BLACK SMOKE DON'T MEAN ITS BROKE

I am guessing you might be too young to remember the 1960's in LA. When I first came to CA in 1965, you couldn't see more than 200 or 300 feet on a normal day in LA without seeing the brown haze. I recall looking up Wilshire Blvd. on a sunny winter afternoon and only being able to see one stoplight: the next one was invisible in the haze. You couldn't stand at the bottom of a building and see up beyond the 10th floor. From Santa Monica it was impossible to see the mountains, ever, not just on a bad day.

This whole thing with CARB is a bunch of crap. Just be glad your trucks are under 14,000 GVW. The things CARB is mandating for trucks and buses over 14,000 GVW is a bunch worse. My toterhome falls into the 14,000 + catagory and this new regulation applies to trucks of any vintage, no age excemption. My options are scrap the truck and replace it with a new one, re-power it with a 2010 compliant engine system, or put on a $10,000 particulate exhaust filter system which will allow me to put off the first 2 options for a couple years.
The worst part is this whole thing is based off of junk science that particle matter (PM) is a harmful polutant. In a recent CARB Science Symposium in February, the basis for all this was debunked by scientific reports. PM 2.5 from diesel exhaust has not been found to be harmful to the extent that CARB wants you to believe.

    Remember smog alerts?
No recess while at school...we weren't allowed to go outside to play because the air was so bad.

Thing is, cars today are 99% cleaner than they were. And now we've got all sorts of regs to get minuscule gains, at great cost.

How harmful is it then? Do you just get a little bit of cancer, or have your lungs only scarred a tiny bit?

How are they going to smog CAT motors in trucks?

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder!

I thought the whole particulate study was B.S. because the guy who was doing it (or something) lied on his resume about having a doctorate (or something) and they found that he had skewed the numbers for a more liberal minded result. I remember KFI talking about it about two months ago.
