    Default Whats the proper signal?

On my way to work this morning, I cut off a car that was in my blind spot on the freeway. The guy honked and flipped me off. I gave him a wave to try and say I was sorry. He thought I was waving him off, and up came his middle finger again. I then banged my palm into my forhead, to show him I was the idiot and was sorry. I think he took it that, I thought HE was nuts, and flipped me off again. I thought I would give it one more shot and tried to mouth the words " I'm SORRY", He was not much of a lip reader and mouthed back something like " FUCK YOU".

If he knew I was trying to apologize, he would probably not have been as upset. I think that most of here, would give a guy a break, if they acknowledge their mistake and apologize.

We all know the signs to show someone, we are pissed off. What is the universal and unmistakable sign that says I'M SORRY?

When I've done something similar I wave and clearly mouth "Sorry" Not much more a person can do.

I honestly believe that it doesn't matter what you do. If someone has a fit because they got cut off and want to flip out, then they're just angry at the world and it doesn't matter if you apologize. Do what you can and if they don't accept your attempt to say you're sorry forget it. You're better off letting those people go on their merry way.

On the way home from the water earlier I had a clown pull out from a side street in front of my truck and boat. I had bury the brake pedal. It felt like natural to hit the horn and when I did the passenger's middle finger was flying high. The passenger appeared to be a white haired tweaker. Oh well, nothing serious.

What exactly is a 'white haired tweaker"? lol....
These days getting sideways with another driver over a minor mistake might
get out of hand in an instant...
Something minor that happens in traffic it might be best to avoid communication...Like the op...he goofed, he knew it, tried to acknowledge
the mistake and it seemed to escalate the situation...There are people out
there who are ready to tip over..they are just looking for a reason...

Or.....when in doubt....flip them the peace sign......

guaranteed employment, free comprehensive healthcare, free
education, free food, free housing, free clothing, free
utilities, and only law enforcement has guns. And believe it or
not, such a place does, indeed, exist: It's called prison."
