    Joey Porter’s dogs kill again

The National Football Post 4 hours, 39 minutes ago
joey Porter(notes) sure isn’t doing much to dispel the belief held by many that pit bulls and mastiffs are vicious and aggressive animals.

Four dogs belonging to the Arizona Cardinals linebacker got loose last Saturday, July 2, and killed a neighbor’s dog, according to the Bakersfield Californian. Per the report, Porter was cited for not having dogs on a leash.
Five years ago when he was playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, two of Porter’s dogs got loose and killed a miniature horse on a farm in Pennsylvania.
Animal Control spokeswoman Kim Rodriguez told the Californian that Porter’s dogs appeared to be half pit bull, half mastiff. Porter was reportedly upset and apologized.

At least he wasn't fighting them I guess.

At least he is upset and apologetic. I am sure he'll pay for it too.

As much money as he makes, you'd think he would have a suitable facility to keep them in.

Apologies the first time were good enough.

    Not the second.

With multiple failures of control resulting in other animals dying, the dogs should be taken from him and destroyed.

He should also not be allowed to obtain a canine license nationally for 5-10 years.

This ia a stunning lack of discipline on his part.

I dont say the dogs should be destroyed because of an "eye for an eye". Although in principle I agree.

Im saying they should be destroyed because they have now been "rewarded" twice for killing the first animals they could find off premises.

This instills confidence and bloodlust in the dogs to go do it again if the gate is left open.
IF it were our farm growing up the dogs would not have had a second chance. We put down more than one livestock killer.

Sometimes the posts on here are worse than the media.

    "Another Michael Vick?"

Only because it is a black NFL star and a dog is involved. Other than that hundreds, if not thousands of dogs get loose daily Some hurt or kill other animals. I had a dog that got into the neighbors yard and killed their cat. It sucks, but it doesn't make anyone a bad person. It happens....

Obviously you are uninformed. Its okay though, that's what happens when you get all your news from the television. This is obviously a problem created by the owner. While the breed might be predisposed to behave aggressively, its the owners job to either socialize them, or make damn sure they don't get out. Afterall, its not like the dogs killed or attacked each other...

Im pretty tolerant of mistakes, I make them occasionally too.

A single dog getting out is a common occurrence. Accidents happen and dont make anyone a bad person.

A lab get outs and kills a neighbors cat but wouldn't attack a little girls or boy - different deal.

Its happened to me, and a lot of friends.

We dont have agressive dogs that kill in packs though, and Id be willing to bet that if the first thing those dogs came across was a 6 year girl on a bicycle shed be either maimed for life or dead right now.

Multiple accidents show a pattern, and when it comes to aggressive animals with a history of killing passive animals where would you draw the line?

Agressive breeds off leash on my land charging my friends, family, or animals are subject to immediate takedown.

An old couple rents our house and 10 acre plot in Indiana had to deal with meth heads that moved in across the road and bought 5-6 pits/ similar breeds. Then they fenced in their yard. You couldnt even go outside without hours of barking and them trying to get at you, and of course- one day they got out. They immediately made a beeline for the woman who was gardening. She got inside and the dogs wouldnt let her out.

This happened over an over again until the old man dropped 2 of them with a 12 gauge and started a war with the "neighbor."
It was short lived as the old house across the road exploded one night and the scumbags left for good.

No not really, but famous people get attention correct?? I could have brought up that there is a pattern among certain celebrities that have either kennels or breeding farms for the breed such as the group Outcast or DMX plus other rap stars etc. but I didnt. I merely reflected that this is a similar story of violence in the dog world of Pits. I myself have had 4 pit bulls and each was a valuable member of the family but I also relalized that it was my responsibiity and mine alone to curtail their actions even though they were friendly, well one was mean.
These stories of violence certainly are not helping the image of the breed, you gotta admit that right? Most home insurance co. have an exclusion for any agrressive animal such as pits, rotties, mastiff, dobermans etc, so beware of your responsibilities.
