I've stayed there a couple of times. It was a very nice place.

The rooms are great and they have some entertainment involving horses, if you're into the equestrian thing. I am. Horses are beautiful.

The casino itself strikes me as no better than any off-strip Vegas casino but we aren't connoisseurs.

The main restaurant is a diner that is open to the casino. It doesn't look like much but we had a bunch of great meals there.

There is a terrific steak house on the second floor, by the east side doors. You wouldn't know it's there, but for a staircase that leads upstairs and I think there is an elevator if you're too drunk to navigate the 7 inch risers.

It's very quiet and has that dark Ben Cartwright mood a good steak house should have. The first time we were there, the husband and wife owners of the place were having a feud and the woman was so blind with rage, she couldn't serve the baked potato condiments properly. We ended up with ice cream scoops of butter on our potatoes that were then buried under a mountain of bacon bits. She pumped the whole load on there. "Onion?" "No thank you" ..... and the next thing we knew there was a big wad of chives on top of the hill of crumbly bacon. :D

It was great, seriously, and not just because of the fantastic floor show. :D

Thanks Tom Great review with flair to boot ! Don't gamble but love to people watch and Vegas is the place to do so , I have however been know to drink a bit and The "Ben Cartwright" BBQ sounds Killer !

FWIW Took a vintage V drive there a few years back to drop off at an Afgan deployed Soldiers home , we stayed at Luxor , had the best Bacon wrapped Filet I have ever eaten , nice Suite there too

Stayed an extra night in Vegas, had to get out the Hard Rock because of Rehab room rates. We liked South Point a lot. Great sports book - took a lot of seasonal prop bets that we didn't see on the boards on the Strip. Slots were loose enough to keep you interested. Food was excellent. Had a family bowling tournament - they have a pretty good sized bowling center in-house.

Only down side ? They used to run a shuttle service to/from the Strip. No more, I'm guessing, due to the economy, and it's about a $35 cab ride, one-way. If you need to get over to the Strip, have a car, or know a local who can drive you. Frequent shuttles to the airport, however...

Nice place - everything you might need is probably there ! We'd stay there again, no problem, if travel plans or budget made it necessary...

South Point started life being as drearily dull as possible, but it has spruced up, added some desirable restaurants and improved the gaming floor. It's still for a quiet crowd and it aims squarely for the middle. It's sort of like the Toyota Camry of casinos.
No resort fees that we know of,,, yet.

The Free shuttle is gone, it's 8 bucks now and stops running at 1AM, cab fare to the strip has gone up to $40 each way.
Adult resort,, not much for the kids like a pool slide or anything beyond theaters that only accept cash.

The price is right here for rooms and food and low gaming limits.
Beware of the 6:5 BlackJack trap,, but some good double deck 21 games available in the casino.
Lousy 2X odds on Craps.

South Point has been my #1 choice for business when I do not need to be on the strip. Easy access I-15 and airport. You can fly in, bokk their shuttle ahead, and get transportation to/from MaCarran for free. Rooms are clean, very large, and cheap. Steakhouse has killer fillet for about $27 plus sides. Itallian has a great seafood pasta with shell fish for about the same price and $20 bottle of wine sepcials. the best deal in Vegas hands down. Large pool that is usually cool and spa for 25. It is a locals place at night with $1 minium bets on the tables. Stay at SP maybe 20 times, never a bad experience.
