If the "poor" guy living in Harlem or Compton moved to rural Alabama and made the same money in blue collar jobs they would be less "poor".
Like I said, a family of 4 living in California with $40,000 a year would be much poorer than a family of 4 making $40,000 a year here. 13,500 (yes that's 13,500 heated and air conditioned) square foot home here on 40 acres of land with outdoor swimming pool etc? I have about $600,000 in it. Not counting the land. The land has been in family for a long time. Would you like to see pictures of my redneck mansion? In California this house would possibly fetch 7 figures. It's been in local architect magazines.
Not counting commercial land around major highways etc., the typical homestead type land here is around $2,000 an acre.
