    Default George Lucas rock on!

After using up 25 years of his life trying to build to build his own production facility on the 5000+ acres he owns in marin county.... And the eco-freeks gaming him the entire time...
And after all that time it was looking like he had finally won, the county officials somehow thought it would be cool to give the eco-freeks one last chance at bat......Seems like GL knew it would happen....Did a big 'Oh well, never mind'....and by doing so the property reverts back to it's original use for residential housing...
And now his mission is to turn it into developing it into low income housing.

Leave it to the epa/tree humpers/lefty loons to actually accomplish something by cleaning up the air in ca. and then trash anything and everything that made ca. the great state it once was....and now they are making a power play for the other 49 states

guaranteed employment, free comprehensive healthcare, free
education, free food, free housing, free clothing, free
utilities, and only law enforcement has guns. And believe it or
not, such a place does, indeed, exist: It's called prison."

I've followed this as it is local to me...The eco-freak locals will get what they deserve, a getto in their own back yard and a big slap in the face to Lucas, who is one of the finest stewards of nature and the enviroment one could hope for. He has spent millions preserving the natural habitat on not only his land but other land as well. These idiots could not find a more caring individual in the world. Now he is going to leave and let the poverty pimps take over and destroy what he tried to preserve. Serves the NIMBYs right. Be careful what you wish for...you just may get it.

The tree huggers will wish they backed him when it is all said and done. The studio is the old Letterman Hospital and it is prestine to the period.
The tree huggers won't have a chance against the money involved in turning the Presido over as a residential sesspool

What do eco freaks have against a hollywood production facility? I thought eco freaks and hollywood people were all buddy buddy.

As far is Lucas goes, I grew up watching Indiana Jones and the original Star Wars movies. After watching his newest Jones movie and the newer Star Wars movies, the man needs to retire. They sucked!

He should have stuck with being the "official" photographer for Carroll Shelby. Yeah, thats him in the passanger seat.

Today the same car lists him as the crew chief. But I assure you, he never was But I do believe he painted that car.

In your face Sierra Club! Now all the residents of Marin County will HATE the Sierra Club and the eco-loons. My favorite paragraph:

"The company said it hopes to sell the Lucas Valley property to a developer interested in building low-income housing. Officials said the company is in talks with two cities offering substantial incentives to build the studio."

my mil lives in terra linda. my wife grew up around there. her high school was used for the big dance sequence in american graffiti. this is just my 2cent opinion, but it would be a very very very very very very very very very cold day in hell before anyone ever see's one stick of low income housing back in that valley. it is not a "low income" housing area.
gl already has some fairly big production facilities back there. the debate over this "addition" has been going on for quite awhile now. it's not so much the marin county politicians that give a damn, it's the "non low-income" neighbors that live around that area raising hell. just more back and forth blah.

not much different than a dragstrip in havasu, if you think about it. nobody's got any money to build it anyway, but look at who makes all the noise? it isn't the city and it isn't the cars... gl's neighbors are whining about increased traffic, increased traffic noise, and (of all things) construction noise... gotta love it....

I really hate to hear stuff like that. And GL hates hearing it too, and that stops him from doing more movies - more Star Wars movies that I would love to see. They didn't SUCK, there are hundreds of movies each yr that SUCK ASS. The newer movies ranged from ok, to good, to very good, but none of them sucked.
Btw, I thought Spielberg did Raiders.
Anyway if you go back and watch those old movies now, you see that they were very short and simple.
I suppose I could say the same thing about a Phil Collins record. The simple songs were the best, but time goes by and the artist tries new things.

Well they deserve it. The lovely thing there is that it will pit the blacks of the left against the environuts of the left.
Perhaps our battle plan for the future in other areas as well?

I can't think of one G/L movie that sucked, Might be my CRS taking over but not one sucky G/L movie comes to mind. Considering when the 1st Star Wars movie came out It was pretty high tech back then but to watch it now it seems a little dated. I think only because the advancement in special effects, editing and everything else that goes into movie making now the old stuff will seem out dated. And as for G/L fighting with the NIMBYs, greenie-weenies, Marin County Board of Stupidvisers this battle has been going on for about 25 years now. I can hardly blame Lucas for telling all of 'em to pound sand and stick the land up their collective asses and turn it into a getto. Lucas said he will finance the low cost housing project just to stick his thumb in their eye. I doubt Lucas will lose money on the deal and even if he did it is nothing compared to what he spent fighting the idiots and morons for the last 25 years. If the NIMBYs are concerned about the traffic Lucas' facility would bring just think of what 2000-2500 units of getto dwellers will bring. I think I will go to W. Marin and open a wheel/tire store specializing in 22s to 26s and blingy accessories.

As one of the few people on this board in that industry I have been watching this for a while.

ILM is the 800 pund gorilla in the post production world, and Marin County was absolutely stupid to pull the crap they did with George.

I find it fitting and hilarious at the same time that George is bailing on them and I hope the clowns get voted out of office as a result. The county will get little from low income housing in effect- have basically pissed away a gold mine.

Now-- it could be that George will take his money to Canada- where the local governments encourage businesses rather than hold them hostage for petty interests, or he could go some other states that are begging for the business and eager to help him. Time will tell.

Its only in the face of absolute loss that dumbshit local governments realize who and what they are fucking with.

What most people dont know is how much of EVERY special effects movie ILM does and what a solid employer ILM is.
(albeit at the low end somewhat of a sweatshop)

ILM does more FX shots than every house by a wide Margin.
