    Default Elizabeth Warren---Minority?

I heard this the other day:

2nd Law School Listed Warren As A Minority | Sweetness & Light

    And then this.... Whoopsie!

    Law professor: Warren

Why does 1/32 Indian make you a minority???

She's listed that way because a white male or female with European or New-America heritage doesn't qualify for shit. Any scholarship geared towards people of that origin is considered racists. So the only solution is to compete for scholarships that are nationwide that everyone can apply too. At that point they have race quotas anyways so only the few wonder-kids will get one.

I went to school for 4.5 years. I didn't meet one fully white European or New-American heritage male or female that got a scholarship outside of the standard scholarship our school offered for their self-tax purposes.

Edit Add: She's a victim of her own ideals. How pathetic.

Would have worked better if she had changed her name to Elizabeth Thunderpussy

Well they didn't try very hard, their grades were poor, or they weren't very good at writing essays because there are plenty of scholarships out there. I have received quite a few and I know of 7 others who are white that have received some as well.

And I thought you were using your savings from pushing all that dirt. Remember all of us aren't as smart as you and Z.

Anyway, you are comparing apples to oranges and missed Icy's point completely. The subject is scholarships based on different races/minorities. And I don't think 1/32 should qualify. Try to keep up.

Maybe so, but I can tell You that if were to walk into the financial aid office at say, Oxnard city college, and ask for help in English, you will get nothing but blank stares.

My point was Icy's view on scholarships is inaccurate. There are plenty of "race based" scholarships but there are also many that are merit based that do not even consider race and that is why I mentioned it. You would be suprised to know that many scholarships don't have many people apply for them, I know I was after hearing this from different people I have talked to that sit on various scholarship comitees. A lot of these scholarships only award $1000, $2000, or $3000 but most students don't know about them because they aren't really advertised.

And speaking of apples to oranges, you might want to tell Icy since he is the guy that brought up scholarships, that the articles you linked to don't even mention scholarships. They are discussing the schools Warren taught at that listed her as an Indian so they could represent themselves as having a racially diverse faculty.

Going back to scholarships, it isn't up to you what qualifies for a scholarship - it is up to the people that are awarding the scholarship. If they have no problem giving a "racial" scholarship to someone who is only 1/32 of the targeted race, neither should you. You should also not have a problem with someone who is 1/32 of that race applying for the scholarship because they are playing within the rules. Don't you try to do everything the rules allow you to do that is in your best interest?

I don't know about Oxnard College, I never went there. I did go to a JC before transfering to a university and there are numerous opportunities for help if you keep your eyes and ears open. Your best bet isn't talking to the financial aid department. They have the same old scholarships they recomend to everyone and because of this many people apply. I have never went to visit the financial aid office at any school I have attended because they can't do anything for me better than I can do it for myself. Any information they have is available online so why wait in lines so you can deal with people that don't know what they are talking about?

You have a much higher chance of being awarded a private scholarship than you have of being awarded anything having to do with the financial aid office. Your best bet to finding scholarships few people apply for is from professors. They hear about all kinds of different opprtuities and are more than happy to share these opportunities with their best students. Another place for scholarships is your school clubs that you might belong to for your major. Professional organizations for people working in the field you are majoring in are another great place for scholarships. The reality is that most people that can apply for a scholarship don't want to take the time to spend an hour asking for letters of recomendation from professors, an hour getting copies of transcripts, an hour filling out the application and two to three hours writing an essay about whatever they want you to write about. Many times all you have to do is slightly alter an essay that you have previously written before and that will suffice. Six hours of work for $1000 or more in scholarship doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. It's a good thing there are so many unmotivated people out there making it easy for the ones that are motivated.

That is a very good reply, Mr. Ram!

But I though the thread was about minorities and college?

If you read the articles in the OP you would see the subject is more of employment that happens to be at a college and race which happens to be minority. The thread was then steered toward the subject of scholarships by Icy and the thread creator, FC. The only post that does address the original subject is post 9.
