Private Jobs Down 4.6 Million From January 2008; Federal Jobs Up 11.4%

    By Ed Carson

    Fri., June 08, 2012 8:18 PM ET

President Obama’s statement Friday that the private sector is “doing fine” drew so much ridicule that he was forced to backtrack hours later. But it’s clear that Obama and many other Democrats see job problems — and solutions — starting and stopping with government employment.

A quick look at payroll stats shows that’s not the case.

Private-sector jobs are still down by 4.6 million, or 4%, from January 2008, when overall employment peaked. Meanwhile government jobs are down just 407,000, or 1.8%. Federal employment actually is 225,000 jobs above its January 2008 level, an 11.4% increase. That’s right, up 11.4%.

Private payrolls have been trending higher in the last couple of years while government has been shedding staff. But that’s because governments did not cut jobs right away. Overall government employment didn’t peak until April 2009, 16 months after the recession started. It didn’t fall below their January 2008 level until September 2010.

The recession was boomtime for federal employment, especially after Obama took office. Federal jobs kept rising (excluding a temporary Census surge in early 2010) until March 2011 — more than three years after overall payrolls peaked.

Obama’s 2009 stimulus did little to revive private jobs, but did funnel massive funding to state and local governments. That, however, only delayed the day of reckoning for states and cities to curb spending. They finally did significantly slash jobs in 2010 and 2011. But those layoffs have slowed to a crawl in recent months — averaging less than 3,500 job cuts a month since November.

    Has someone been lying again?????

Liberals just chose to ignore relevant information about the world they live in, and then call themselves sophisticated for having chosen to be more stupid than God made them.

It's precious to hear the spin-master tout all these jobs "HE'S" created while he conveniently forgets to mention all the ones he's destroyed. He's blind enough to completely ignore the facts that there are so many less jobs than when he took office, despite three years of his "plan" unfolding.

It's akin to the overweight person touting all the pounds they lost without telling you that they gained every one back and then some.

He is the great divider. His idea that you can fix the unemployment problem by hireing more federal and federally subsitized/funded people is insanity, but his minions and usefull idiots buy into it.
I never had the dislike for civil serve employees I do until this asshat took office. Its his idea of a bigger ever more powerfull, over seeing over bearing, over regulating government is what irks my ass.
And THEN to make the matter worse, you have dipshits like CVX, ram, R&J and shue that give the ideas the big thumbs up. And then they wonder why hard working tax paying people are fed up. They wonder why their brilliant idea and recovery plan got hammered in Wisconsin. Are they braindead. Well, we no at least one tax dollar spounge is.

No. It means that there are still jobs that are not required but are still occupied but the individual but the job should have been eliminated. No layoffs of meaningless jobs like he's trying to say. He hasn't done crap, kind of like you when you actually had a job.

Why do we need real estate salesmen ? If all real estate salesmen quit would anyone really notice ? Maybe we need a new government agency to retrain out of work real estate salesmen to be Wal Mart greeters. Skills overlap so that should be easy

You are really dense! A guy retires and his job is not filled is the same effect as a job eliminated by layoff !..... In both cases no paycheck is being cut any longer ! With your low level of intelligence how did you ever get containers of rubber dog shit and dildoes shipped on time from China to America ??? What a dufus

You should be glad that I did get them here as you wouldn't have anything to have shoved up you azz while you were sleeping at work.

You are so business stupid you can't see what I was saying. Obama was saying that he eliminated jobs through shrinking the government. He only suspended the positions. He didn't eliminate the useless positions like he was claiming.

Again your stupidity is far beyond. You haven't a freakin clue beyond collecting a paycheck for sitting on you azz. It's a good thing you worked for a government that doesn't fired it's POS employees because you probably couldn't have gotten a job cleaning toilets. People of your intelligence level are why the term "good enough for government work" came to be. I guess that's probably what your dad said to your mom when you were born.

Yep, almost the same....except the guy that retired collects retirement and the guy that got laid off collects unemployment.

"Falling" off the rolls is a far cry from being "cut".

But that doesn't stop O from claiming otherwise.
Just another lie, wrapped in a "situational" truth.
