Default Wonder if the Union will put Hostess out of business.

Apparently they have until tomorrow night to decide if ever get twinkies again. (havent had a twinkie in 20 years- but I like the cherry pies)

The ownership will liquidate the whole thing if they dont come to an agreement tomorrow.

5000 Union workers are holding out and the whole lot of 18000 will lose their jobs if they dont get it together.

    Should be interesting to see.

Hostess has been hanging by a thread for awhile now. Their sales have gone down steadily for some time. Not sure why. They filed BK around 2004 or so, and again this year.
Leave it to a union to kick a company in the sack when its in financial straights. Maybe Ozero like Tweekies and Snoballs enough to bail out the company, and hand it to the union.

Could it be they are being slowly "choked out" in the same manner the Unions choked out the auto industry? Cost of production is simply too high to maintain a competitive market share.....
Besides, I am sure it is only a matter time before Hostess would be outlawed in NYC

I will never understand why you can LAWFULLY kill an unborn child, while it is UNLAWFUL to purchase a 17oz soda.....

So was GM. All that did was entice the union to put on a big heavier boot to kick them in the sack. There is some strange mentality that drives unions to snuff a company once they smell blood. Never figured it out. But they seem to take great pleasure in taking down companies like its a contest and a victory. Never have figured out what the "prize" is.
But I think its the same mentality as this:

i work for wonder bread as a stationary engineer for the last 25 years-has been a great place to work =great wages=medical and so on=the last ten yrs has been tough for all involved-the cuts that have been proposed to the entire work force including management is not to drastic =8% wage 17% health/welfare increase in contrib. still will be a wage to live with=

the teamsters voted yes bakers voted no along with the machinests and such-i voted yes out of the 15 engineers that work here but only 9 voted==

the bakers started a nationwide strike saturday across the nation-their only goal is to have the completely close down

our union is in the same stance with the bakers they would rather us lose our jobs than for us to work = our union rep stated that he did not care if we lost our job=

it ceases to amaze me how some people think=if you really want to see the mentally of some of the people that work for hostess- go to twinkees.org for funny thoughts

some of these people have no clue whats happening in the word

I feel bad for those that work hard and might be losing their jobs.

Hostess to liquidate if bakers' strike continues through Thursday - Nov. 14, 2012

Thanks for posting that info squirtin. It sucks when another union holds others hostage, and possibly jepordize their jobs. I imagine that having worked there that long, you have a tie with the company that a few dollars is worth breaking, specially when you are aware the company isn't doing all that well.

Hostess has taken some hits thru the years from health nuts. As if people eat the stuff as a stable food. Its damn snack product for Christ's sake!

Our union guys(Iam retired) have had to take raises that were already in contract, and turn them over due to health insurance increases that were not covered under the current agreement. Chances are, they won't see much of a raise in paycheck income from the next talks in July. If I was to guess, I would say the contractors will try for a long contract with minimal, if any raise, and the members will ask for a 1-2 year deal and hope things get better. The fight, if there even is one, will be over the length of the contract more than the content.
In all the 37 years I was in the trade, we never once even came close to a strike. Pretty level headed guys, and reasonable contractors. They all know that there are NO WINNERS in a strike.

Oh yeah UD, you need to read some of this stuff. This is EXACTLY what we have been talking about on here for over 4 years. These people are INSANE! I feel for squirtin being up against this group. Hopefully the ones one the message board are not typical of the whole union, or the place is toast.
I can only imagine this is exactly what it must have been like at GM in the final days before the gov stepped in.
If it doesn't load, let it run for awile, and then hit the X in the site address box to stop the search and it will appear. At least for me. Don't try to open any of the date links, just scroll down until you come to the message board. There is some crazy shit on there.

I spent school years 1-8 in Pekin Illinois, main and ONLY suburb of Peoria Illinois.

Caterpillar was the main employer - by a landslide.

I remember summers where my neighbors kids couldn't afford ice cream (ice cream truck as kid) because they were on strike. One out of 3 kids parents worked for Cat in my 2 block radius.

I remember doing the math in grade school to figure out that they were on strike so long that even when they got their raise they could never make it up.

Ive seen what a strike does to a small town firsthand.
