To reinstate the black bear population in Louisiana. The DNR has spent millions (maybe billions?) of our tax dollars on this with out consideration of the danger they can pose.
I was on my way home last night. Cruise set on 70, and out the darkness came a 400# black bear. I assume by its size it was a male. Just as I was about to cross a bridge, I hit the bear and then it went under my truck. Being a heavily sprung dually, it bounced violently as I struggled to get it under control. To be honest, I am surprised I didn't go off the bridge. As I awaited the flat bed, I armed myself with my .45 and a flash light and set out to make sure the SOB was dead, which he was.
I thought about going back this morning and cutting off its head to have a skull mount made, but was informed I would be in violation of federal law if I did. You see, even if this beast was on my property, it still belongs to the DNR. Even if it was dead and a pile of bones, it still belongs to the DNR. The way I see it, you are liable for damage if your dog runs out in front of a car and causes damage. So how about the DNR and Federal Wildlife Agency liable for the bear damage on my truck? Good luck with that!
If I had been in a small car, or motorcycle, I wouldn't be typing this. I would probably be in the hospital or worse. So why do we need these animals? Why do we need to reestablish wolf populations that will just cause problems with ranchers? We have had hell with the bears ruining deer feeders, food plots, and even the farmers have had problems with them damaging corn fields and irrigation pipe. But we are powerless to do anything about it. The Federal Wildlife Agents won't provide any help.
And they are still spending money hand over fist to fund these programs. What a waste with no regard to public safety. They are not with us, but against us!
My poor truck. I just spent 4500 bucks on repairs (the new ones suck with all the CARB restrictions) and maintenance. And even $1600 on a set of tires. I was planning on vacationing in Florida pulling my boat at the end of this month. So much for that! The white haze you see on my truck is frost.
This is the only pic I'm going to put up of the bear because they are pretty graphic (don't want to offend Rex1). Look, he nearly is as long as the emergency lane is wide!!!
