As the fiscal Cliff approaches, we see Obama and the Dems boost, "we can not believe the Rep would hold the middle class hostage just to protect the top 2%". When in reality, the Dems are not willing to offer or even discuss the "cuts" necessary to help bring the nation's "out of control" deficit to a foreseeable manageable degree.
Reps are willing to work and negotiate in regards to these tax increases, but with the balanced approach of entitlement cuts which exceed the tax increases must be on the table as well.
I personally believe Obama has offered his recent ridiculous demands knowing the Reps will not agree too it, and simply because he wants the nation to go over the cliff sending us into a deeper economic demise. Why?....he or his administration want to continue on the "pathway to Greece" and they haven't a clue as how to put this nation on a true recovery track, and maintain the "giveaways" the Dem Party holds so dear. They WILL NEVER give up their precious entitlement programs.
So, based on the ignorance of the electorates and results of the past election I believe the Republicans must look at the big picture on the horizon and give careful consideration as to how they handle the fiscal cliff.
I see two possible options:
Option 1 - Hold Strong and Fall off the Cliff?
If the Reps hold strong their position and we "fall off the cliff", the economy will definitely tank again and we will face a continued down turn in the economy. In 2014 elections, the Dems will rally on the fact that the Reps held the Nation's middle class hostage and allowed us to go over the cliff to protect the top 2% and the Reps MUST GO. As demonstrated by the past election, the electorate majority will swallow this crap hook, line and sinker.....therefore in 2014, the Dems will have a Super Majority! Sound familiar Cali?.....GAME OVER!
Option 2 - Fold and allow the Dems to hang themselves?
If the Reps wink and fold and give the Dems what they ask (with the exception of allowing unlimited debt ceilings), their purposed package includes the same wasteful spending, more bail outs, more stimulus packages and increased deficits, thus a proven and continued down turn in the economy.
In 2014, who can the Dems blame if the Reps gave them everything they wanted? Hopefully by this time the electorate will "see the light" and will be very frustrated with the reverse or no progress in stimulating the economy, and frustrated with their party as they will be draped with continued failure. Granted, the majority of the Dems will not see the light as their heads will always remain up their asses, but hopefully the Rep's will rally and the independents will see it the Conservative way and possibly disarm Obama by giving the Reps both House and Senate.
