Second-Guessing Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2012 - Yahoo! NewsI second that!Victoria Soto's courage under fire: If it were up to me, I would have chosen 27-year-old Victoria Soto as Time magazine's Person of the Year.
Soto was the first-grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary who saved the lives of the students in her class the day of the shooting by hiding them in the closet, and telling the gunman that they were in the school's gymnasium. She was then shot and killed. All of the kids in her class survived, according to reports.
A person never knows what they may or may not do when forced to face terror and tragedy. But Victoria Soto faced such terror and tragedy courageously, sacrificing her own life to protect the lives of the kids that she loved so dearly. And that, to me, is what makes a true hero.
