Default IRS and Occupation request wtf?

Icy, What Do You Do for a Living?
This is a question the IRS wants us to ask. Don't worry, this information doesn't affect your tax outcome. What if I have more than one occupation?
    Occupation

I put "Professional Tax Payer". This is 2nd screen on my turbotax...

AWESOME! So I can't deduct any of my student loan interest. Thanks government Thanks for not giving me one fucking dime and then having you're hand out to reap the rewards of my hard work.

    Student Loan Interest Deduction
Based on what you've entered so far, you are not eligible for a student loan interest deduction.

Your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) of $xx,xxx exceeds the maximum limit of $75,000 for this deduction.

However, you should enter your student loan interest because the states have different limits and in case you make changes that affect your MAGI. Select Continue to enter your student loan interest.

    $8,373 I can't write off...

Is it any wonder why people cheat on their taxes. I heard yesterday that when Obama care fully enacts, we will have to claim it as an income and pay income tax on our health ins.

My wife works as a cocktail server ocasionally, now CA is doing an audit on tip earnings for tax reasons I presume. This is BS because the last I knew a tip was an expration of thanks for good service and not an addition of the wage since the customer decides how much to leave. These asswipes overspend and expect us to cover their overspending, THIS NEEDS TO STOP! We the American people, need to stop this bullshit!

Agree they overtax and overspend. But tips have always been considered income. That's why people in that industry have a much lower base pay rate. It's similar to commission. Commission is also pay for good work and taxable.

Technically, any exchange of money for something other than a purchase is income. The only thing I can think of that's excluded is the $10,000 gift exclusion.

You know all those things an individual purchases from out of state that isn't taxed? I can sell an individual $30,000 outside of my state and not charge sales tax. Technically, they are responsible for paying the Use Tax on it (same as sales tax) in their jurisdiction. If it's an individual I can guarantee you the tax never gets paid. If it's a business, they might not, but they will eventually get charged. Use tax audits on businesses are routine. I get it every few years. They look at my asset list and ask for receipts on all and proof of sales tax or use tax paid. It never fails, they always find something somewhere. A computer I bought online and forgot to pay it on etc. They will at least come up with enough to pay for their time auditing me every few years.

But, say someone is building a big house with all commercial appliances. They go out of state and purchase all those appliances. Spend $100,000 on equipment for their main kitchen, their outdoor kitchen, the pumps for the pool they are putting in, etc. Technically, the individual has a responsibility to pay the (in this area) $8,750 in sales taxes. But they won't. And the state doesn't have the resources to audit every single person.

This is just a drop in the bucket of how truly screwed up our tax system is. Most people are only aware of a fraction of the truly bizarre shit that the IRS and departments of revenue actually do.

I'm really bummed. I'm trying to get ahead in the world (0 debt) and it's just never going to happen in this tax code. I now owe a full 80 hours of take home pay to the CA state and 40 hours of take home pay to the feds. So nearly a month of my pay is required to pay last year's taxes.

Jake, they have been adding 8% to servers gross to account for tips for over 20 years now. And it is bullshit. I see a tip as a GIFT to the server.
I always looked at the word "tip" as being "to insure promptness" Any exchange that takes place between 2 people is none of the governments business.

The worst part is that the server is hit with the 8% regardless if a tip is left or not. They simply add 8% of her gross checks to her gross pay reported.

My Wife is a health insurance broker in CA.

She is reading a book called "Surviving Obamacare".

The things she is discovering are absolutely terrifying, as far as being self paying private sector insurance holders.

Additionally, one would assume tax was already paid on the money prior to being left as a tip and you are right about the 8% earned or not. I agree, a tip is a gift but these asswipes believe that they should share that gift with the workhorse. in other words thank ya massa, thank ya massa.

Wait until they ask for weapons info including the amount of ammo you own, with a disclosure of the penalties for lying.

Ask yourself, why is there ANY mention of firearms and ammo in the Obamacare bill. If you don't think this is so they can "re-visit" that portion of the bill for TWEEKING at a later time. your just kidding yourself.

There is no resaon for firearms to be even mentioned in a health care bill except to modify the wording later, without congressional passage.

Did you notice that when the Supreme Court struck down portions of the bill as unconstituional, they simply modified that portion. Legally, the WHOLE bill was trash at that point, but they let them TWEEK the bill.

HOW THE FUCK CAN THE BILL BE THE SAME BILL THEY VOTED ON, ONCE IT WAS RE-WRITTEN??????

Under this bullshit legal system they have re-invented for themselves, Obamacare can have words removed, or changed at ANY time, with ZERO congressional hearing or vote.

"NOT REQUIRED" can be changed to "REQUIRED" in hours. As in required to disclose number and type of firearms owned.

You're paying less than 10%? I'm sick of you rich people paying lower taxes than your secretaries!

Look for tips to be eliminated. The extra Obamacare taxes will be calculated on estimated tips, which the restaurant industry can't afford. They'll eliminate tips and adjust the total tab accordingly.
